Health & Safety Advisor- Fixed Term Contract

Under the direct reporting to the Project Health & Safety Director, the Safety Advisor will be responsible for providing support to the management team, supervisors, forepersons and workers. This position will provide leadership and coordination of the day-to-day health and safety requirements of the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project. This is a Fixed Term Contract for approximately 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Role is a NIGHT SHIFT position
• Support and promote Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project - Occupational Health & Safety System, Construction Site Specific Management Plan.
• Assist site operations with compliance to current Occupational Health & Safety Legislation and site safety rules.
• Liaise with Site Superintendents on a regular basis regarding health and safety matters.
• Educate and guide Project Personnel on safety best practices, OHS legislation, and site-specific safety requirements.
• Assist with the completion of all required documentation in a timely manner.
• Be up to date on all activities at site; be a positive safety role model and support for all personnel.
• Maintain safety standards.
• Facilitate and participate in site inspections and implement corrective actions, as required.
• Ensure all safe job procedures are available for review.
• Follow-up with injured workers, as necessary.
• Assist with other duties as assigned, within the realm of health & safety.
• Maintain accurate documentation for all injuries/illnesses.
• Maintain up to date documentation (investigations, near misses, incidents).
• Organize and schedule required safety training.
• Ensure that adequate first aid coverage is always available.
• Provide direction, support and resource to all site managers, and supervisors.
• Analyze and identify leading and lagging indicators.
• Provide / facilitate site-specific orientations and other site-specific training.
• Role may include overtime, only as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Above average analytical and organizational skills needed to complete reports and documentation.
• Excellent communication skills, both receptive (listening) & expressive (writing & speaking).
• Demonstrated capacity to work both autonomously and within a team environment.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships in a large and complex network.
• Demonstrated leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
• Proven computer skills in Microsoft Office 365 are essential.
• Construction/infrastructure experience.
• Valid BC Driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
• Comprehensive knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations.
• Must be physically fit, prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including working at height.
• Exceptional accident investigation practices and interview skills.

• Knowledge of Ministry of Transport & Infrastructure (MoTI) specifications.
• Occupational Health and Safety Certificate and/or Diploma considered an asset.
• Construction Safety Officer (CSO) Certification is required. ASTTBC CSO or CSO(P) Accreditation or working towards the designation.
• Minimum 5 years Construction/Infrastructure health and safety experience.
• Marine training (SDVS, ROC-M, STCW, PCOC) is an asset.
• Confined Space training is an asset.
• Fall Protection training is an asset.
• Train the Trainer, of any safety-related training is an asset
• WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Attendant Level 3 is required.

This role offers an annual base salary in the anticipated range of $90,000–$105,000 CAD, with compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
