HGV Technician Team Leader

Join Schenk UK and play a key role in keeping our fleet moving safely, efficiently and reliably.

Schenk UK is a leading tanker haulage business operating one of the largest specialist road tanker fleets in the UK. As we continue to grow and develop our operations, we are looking for an experienced and motivated HGV Technician Team Leader to join our workshop team.

The Role

As an HGV Technician Team Leader, you will lead and support a team of HGV Technicians while remaining hands-on and actively involved in the maintenance, inspection and repair of our fleet.

You will be the first line of workshop leadership, responsible for allocating workload, providing technical guidance, supporting fault diagnosis and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Working closely with the Workshop Controller and Workshop Manager, you will help maximise fleet availability while ensuring all maintenance activities meet company, manufacturer and legislative requirements.

Shift pattern and payment rates

4 on 4 off Days

£22.86 per hour

 

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Lead, motivate and support a team of HGV Technicians.

  • Allocate workload across the shift to maximise workshop efficiency.

Workshop Operations

  • Coordinate planned maintenance, inspections and repairs.

  • Respond to unplanned maintenance requirements and changing operational priorities.

  • Organise breakdown support, including the use of third-party repair agents where required.

  • Make appropriate decisions regarding Vehicle Off Road (VOR) status.

  • Keep the Workshop Controller or Workshop Manager informed of work progress and outstanding repairs.

HGV Maintenance & Compliance

  • Carry out servicing, inspections, maintenance and repairs on HGV tractor units, trailers, tankers and associated equipment.

  • Complete and oversee Periodic Safety Inspections (PSIs).

  • Support MOT and ADR preparation.

  • Undertake MOT final inspections and quality assurance checks where required.

  • Review and sign off inspection sheets and maintenance documentation.

  • Ensure repairs are completed to company, manufacturer and legislative standards, with a strong focus on first-time fix.

Stores & Resources

  • Control workshop stores, including issuing and ordering parts.

  • Monitor parts availability and maintain appropriate stock levels.

  • Ensure workshop equipment and resources are used effectively.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure maintenance records, job cards and inspection reports are completed accurately and on time.

  • Complete designated Health & Safety and Safety Plan activities.

  • Support internal audits and compliance inspections.

  • Maintain high standards of workshop housekeeping.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve workshop efficiency, safety and quality.

  • Analyse recurring defects and recommend preventative maintenance improvements.

  • Support the introduction of new processes, systems and best practice.

About You

We are looking for an experienced HGV Technician who is ready to take the next step in their career and develop their leadership skills.

You will have:
