In line with our increasing business, we are looking for qualified and experienced candidates for Hydrogeological or Hydraulic Modelling Engineer to join our team and be based in India.

Job Description

Context:

As a Hydrogeological or Hydraulic Modelling Engineer within AFRY Design Center, you will work in close collaboration with our Swedish hydrogeology team based in Gothenburg and Stockholm. You will be part of an international delivery organization, contributing to complex and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.

Our Swedish operations include a wide range of hydrogeological and hydrological assignments – from early-stage assessments to detailed design and impact evaluation. Typical applications include groundwater lowering, tunnelling, infrastructure drainage systems, and hydraulic design of surface water systems.

The role requires strong competence in groundwater or hydraulic modelling, with the ability to translate modelling results into practical design input and decision support.

About the team in Sweden:

In the Southwest region of Sweden, we are a team of experienced hydrogeologists and engineers working with groundwater and surface water issues in infrastructure and urban development projects.

Our projects are characterized by high technical complexity, often involving interaction between groundwater, surface water and geotechnical conditions. A key focus area is prediction and management of groundwater impacts, including inflow to tunnels, environmental effects, and mitigation measures.

To meet an increasing demand for advanced modelling capabilities, we are strengthening our team with international resources. We are specifically looking for a self-driven engineer with strong modelling skills who can play an active technical role in project delivery and development of modelling practices.

Job Description

Responsibility:

• Perform advanced hydrogeological and/or hydraulic modelling
• Take technical responsibility in selected projects and ensure high-quality deliverables
• Work in multidisciplinary teams
• Prepare technical documentation and design calculations
• Provide specialist input throughout different project phases
• Support internal teams and contribute to knowledge and sharing best practice
• Mentor junior engineers and support competence development
• Contribute to development of design methods and engineering practices

Qualifications

Qualifications

We expect that you have:

• Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Hydrogeology, Hydrology or equivalent
• Minimum 10 years of experience in hydrology or hydrogeology engineering
• At least 5 years of experience in hydrology or hydrogeology modeling
• Proven experience in groundwater or hydraulic modeling
• Experience in setting up, calibrating and evaluating numerical models
• Good understanding of hydrogeological processes in soil and rock environments
• Experience working with GIS tools (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS)
• Experience in numerical modelling tools (e.g. MODFLOW, FEFLOW, SEEP/W, HEC-RAS)
• Experience in evaluation and interpretation of hydrogeological field tests (e.g. slug tests and pumping tests using Aqtesolv or similar tools)
• Strong proficiency in English, with ability to work with non-English (e.g. Swedish) source material using AI-based translation tools

We appreciate if you have:

• Experience with Swedish geology and geotechnical conditions
• Experience with CAD/BIM tools (e.g. AutoCAD, Quadri)
• Experience from international projects
• Experience handling and structuring groundwater data and databases (e.g. time series, monitoring data)
