Duration: Permanent

Job Purpose: To lead and support the IASB’s financial instruments-related projects, including the upcoming post-implementation review of IFRS 17. This will include, but are not limited to, conducting research and analysis on relevant technical accounting issues, engaging with stakeholders, and drafting due process documents.

The team: The IASB Technical Staff role sits within our Financial Instruments technical staff team.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Contribute to, and oversee where relevant, the development of technical proposals for consideration by the IASB and facilitate the IASB’s decision-making through evidenced-based research, internal and external consultation and drafting of papers and due process documents.

Qualifications & experience

Qualified accountant with strong technical and practical experience in applying IFRS Accounting Standards in accounting for complex financial instruments and/or insurance contracts.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of applying IFRS 9, IAS 32 and/or IFRS 17 to determine the appropriate accounting for complex transactions or instruments in the financial services industry.

• Understands the standard-setting process, including the roles of various parties

2. Managing self and relationships:

• Effective in managing different cultures and behavioural / personality styles, adjusting own behaviours accordingly to work effectively with others

3. Planning and delivering work:
• Strives for continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to more efficiently and effectively deliver on project milestones making use of available resources and technology tools
• Demonstrates ability to anticipate and plan for potential problems / roadblocks, including developing contingency plans. Comfortable working with uncertainty / unpredictability / unexpected outcomes.

4. Effective communications:
Communicates in a concise, clear and well-structured way, appropriately tailored to the audience.
Develops and reviews communications reflecting appropriate positioning, clarity, and logical flow
Drafts and reviews Board papers and due process documents with robust analyses of alternative views, persuading based on evidence and balanced analysis
