IBMi Systems Architect

About This Role:

Workplace Arrangements:

This is a fully remote role! The incumbent may be asked to come onsite to our Ottawa, Ontario Home Office on a quarterly basis.
 

Occasional after-hours work to support with any issues or implementations.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Develop and test an on-boarding process including required training for individuals with knowledge and experience to take on the accountabilities of this role as part of succession planning. 

  •  Provide mentorship and guidance to all members of the systems engineering team and ensure that all onboarding and training documentation is updated to reflect feedback for improvements.

  • Modernization techniques that follow current IBMi best practices for applications, database, security and administration are are designed and implemented for optimal performance and are being used across all IBMi systems and development teams.

  • Performance guidelines and objectives for production applications and databases are implemented and reporting is available to ensure compliance. 

  • Documentation standards are implemented for the design of existing applications, database tables, indexes, etc. and ensure these are being adhered to across IBMi development teams.

  • Develop a 5 year plan for system, administration, security, and database improvements required to keep the IBMi platform functioning optimally.

  • Issue management processes are in place and followed by IBMi Systems Engineers in the prioritization, escalation, resolution and communications of issues in a timely manner. Provide technical leadership and ownership of issues across IBMi platform and integrated technologies.

  • Develop and implement an AI strategy that leverages automation and intelligent tooling to improve IBMi operational efficiency, reduce manual effort, and enable individuals to focus on higher-value activities.

  • IBMi backup recovery, high availability and disaster recovery solutions are in place and tested annually

  • Occasional after-hours work to support with any issues or implementations.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or a related degree

  • Minimum 10+ years IBMi software development with expertise in IBMi development including but not limited to CL, RPG/RPGLE, true ILE components, 100% RPG Free statement formats, Procedures, Modules, Service programs, activation groups, Binding directories, Binder Language, SQL, Embedded SQL, API’s, DDL, Data Queues, Database Triggers.

  • 5+ years application architecture, design, and customization experience in IBMi JDA MMS (merchandise management) software.

  • 5+ years IBMi systems and security administration experience

  • In-depth knowledge of IBMi operating system, hardware and software

  • Experience implementing ILE and ILE best practices in a large IBMi RPG application environment.

  • Experience administering and supporting large IBMi JDA MMS application environments with 7x24 operations and >1000 users

  • Experience implementing and using VS Code for IBMi, GIT, IBM Bob, ARCAD, Navigator for i , and ACS. 

  • Understanding and experience with AI tools in development and managing of IBMi systems.

  • Experience leading a team of IBMi systems engineers.

  • Experience on-boarding and training IBMi systems engineer resources.

  • Experience defining, implementing and enforcing processes and standards that follow IBMi RPG, SQL and database best practices.

  • Experience with IBMi DR/BCP including backup recovery, powerHA and iASP's.

  • Experience with IBMi performance tools and using them to identify and solve RPG/SQL application performance issues.

  • Experience implementing and managing user/application security in a large IBMi environment and knowledge of IBM best practices in these areas.

  • Strong business acumen with excellent logic skills.

  • Proficient problem solver with proven history of being able to resolve urgent and complex business impacting system issues. 

  • Exceptional verbal and written skills to be able to present and communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Team player with an exceptional work ethic, detail oriented and self-motivated

  • Able to effectively meet deadlines, plan, and organize multiple priorities

  • Fosters change, handles stressful situations well and always maintains composure under pressure

Salary

$107,600.00 - $157,600.00

Short Term Incentive Plan

Bonus - Short-Term Incentive Plan, 15% Annual

Retirement Support

Bonus - Management Profit Sharing Plan (MPSP), 15% Annual

Competitive Compensation: The salary range for this position is listed above. Giant Tiger will consider factors such as experience, skills and internal equity to ensure you are paid competitively.


Short Term Incentive Plan: This role includes an annual bonus opportunity based on the percentage of base salary listed above, with payout determined by company and individual performance.


Retirement Support: This role is eligible for company-funded retirement savings, with contributions made on your behalf. The specific retirement program and contribution level are noted above.
