Full description from employer

Connor, Clark & Lunn Financial Group is looking for a motivated and curious Taxation Intern to join our team for a four-month co-op term from January to April 2027.

This isn't a co-op where you'll spend four months doing the same task. You'll work alongside experienced tax and finance professionals and gain hands-on exposure to a variety of businesses and investment sectors, including Infrastructure, Real Estate, Private Equity and our internal corporate operations. If you're interested in accounting and tax but still figuring out where you want your career to take you, this role offers an opportunity to explore different areas of tax while building practical skills that will carry forward into your career and CPA journey.

At CC&L Financial Group, you'll have the opportunity to see how tax supports a diverse financial organization and gain exposure to businesses and transactions you may not encounter in the classroom. You'll work with a team that values accuracy, collaboration, continuous improvement and professional development. By the end of your term, our goal is for you to leave with stronger technical skills, greater confidence working with financial and tax information, and a much better understanding of what a career in tax can look like.

As part of the Tax team, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Gain hands-on tax experience across partnerships, trusts and corporations.
  • Develop your technical skills by applying accounting and tax concepts to real-world transactions and financial statements.
  • Build your Excel skills by creating, improving and maintaining tax calculations, provisions and working papers.
  • Learn how a corporate tax function operates and how tax interacts with accounting, investments and other areas of the business.
  • Contribute to meaningful work with real deadlines and deliverables rather than hypothetical assignments.
  • Work directly with experienced professionals and learn how they approach complex tax and business issues.
  • Develop experience that can provide a strong foundation for a future career in tax, accounting, finance or investments.

What You Will Do

No two weeks will look exactly the same. Depending on our filing cycle and current projects, you'll assist the team with responsibilities such as:

  • Preparing and assisting with partnership, trust and corporate income tax returns.
  • Performing financial statement and account reconciliations to support tax filings and calculations.
  • Assisting with the quarterly tax provision for the parent company.
  • Supporting tax payment calculations and tracking balances for affiliated companies.
  • Helping the team manage and meet various tax filing and payment deadlines.
  • Supporting tax audits and inquiries from Canadian and other tax authorities.
  • Researching and helping respond to tax-related questions from teams across CC&L Financial Group.
  • Creating, developing and improving Excel-based tax calculations, provision models and working papers.
  • Identifying opportunities to make our existing tax processes more efficient and effective.
  • Helping develop clear tax summaries, templates and materials for senior management and other decision-makers.

What You Bring

This opportunity is designed for students who are eager to learn and interested in developing a career in accounting, tax or finance.

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Are currently in the third or fourth year of an undergraduate program, or an MBA program, with a focus on Accounting, Taxation, Finance or a related field.

  • Have some knowledge of Canadian taxation or tax preparation through coursework or previous work experience.

  • Have strong attention to detail and take pride in producing high-quality work.
  • Can manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Are comfortable asking questions and communicating with different people across an organization.
