How You Succeed

To excel in this role, you'll need to be curious, analytical, and detail-oriented. You'll work closely with risk professionals and business stakeholders to assess risks and controls, review processes, and support the uplift of the Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) framework. Your ability to gather and analyse information, challenge assumptions thoughtfully, and communicate insights effectively will be key to supporting a strong risk culture across the bank.

What You Do

Your responsibilities will include:

Who You Work With

Group Non-Financial Risk Management partners business and support units across the bank to strengthen risk governance, promote a strong risk culture, and enhance operational resilience. Within Group Operational Risk Management, you'll work alongside experienced risk professionals responsible for overseeing operational risk frameworks, conducting independent reviews, and providing effective challenge across the organisation. You'll gain valuable exposure to both Global Wholesale Banking and Private Banking businesses, and develop a deeper understanding of risk management in a complex banking environment.

Learning Objectives

This internship will provide you with:

  • An understanding of Operational Risk Management and the Three Lines of Defence model within a banking environment
  • Hands-on exposure to second line of defence (2LoD) review and challenge activities as part of the Risk & Control Self-Assessment framework
  • Practical experience in process analysis, control evaluation, and root cause identification
  • Exposure to how operational risks, incidents, control weaknesses, and governance issues are identified, assessed, and escalated
  • Opportunities to develop analytical, critical thinking, and professional writing skills in a real-world risk management setting
  • Insights into banking products, processes, and risk management frameworks across different business units
  • Experience working with risk data, governance processes, and technology-enabled risk management tools
  • A strong foundation to independently perform basic 2LoD reviews, analyse risk information critically, and articulate recommendations to strengthen the bank's control environment upon completion of the internship
