IT Software Applications Engineer

Introduction to the job 

ASML, including its affiliates and subsidiaries, bring together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced machines, which enable our customers - the world’s leading chipmakers - to reduce the size and increase the functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics. Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, The Netherlands. 

The IT Applications Engineer is responsible for the development, delivery, and performance assurance of applications/software solutions. Works in close collaboration with ASML business stakeholders, incorporating user-defined needs and feedback to improve application design and/or optimize performance. Provides business areas with technical support. Generates ideas for innovation and for conveying the IT art-of-the-possible to the ASML business, inspiring - and realizing - capability step-ups. 

This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require the Company to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology. 

Role and responsibilities 

• Write and maintain reliable code with the help of AI tools.  

• Create front end and backend components.  

• Identify and fix bottlenecks and bugs in code.  

• Develop and maintain REST APIs.  

• Write tests and perform end-to-end testing. 

• Prepare the release plan and deploy the applications in different environments (Test, Acceptance, and Production).  

• Refine the features/user stories together with other developers in the team, to make sure the requirements are clear before planning a sprint.  

• Participate in sprint rituals. 

• Mentor and instruct junior team members. 

• Capable of supporting the architect in design specifications. 

Education and experience 

Bachelor’s degree in IT and/or Engineering. Master’s degree a plus, with a minimum of 5 years related and proven experience in large technical software development environments.

To thrive in this job, you’ll need the following skills:

• Experience with backend web frameworks (Python Flask, Fast API) and test Driven Development.

• Good understanding of front-end technologies including react/typescript.

• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and Kubernetes-based deployments. 

• Experience developing, deploying, and troubleshooting applications running on Kubernetes (K8s). 

• Familiarity with container orchestration, scaling, service discovery, and application lifecycle management in Kubernetes environments. 

• Understanding cloud-native application development and operational practices. 

• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines for containerized application. 

• Proficiency with software tools including Git.

• Familiarity with Linux OS & shell scripting.

• Ability to write clean code independently.  

• Excellent communication skills in English. 

• Demonstrated “team player” with a quality orientation and interpersonal skills.

• Proven ability to perform effectively in a demanding environment with changing workloads and deadlines.

• Proactive, result driven, and demonstrate ownership and accountability.

Nice to have skills: 

• Agile/Scrum SW Release management process knowledge.

• TDD, BDD & testing tools: Rspec, Selenium, Cucumber etc. 

• Cloud experience.

This position is located in Eindhoven and works on a hybrid schedule: at least 3 days onsite.
