The Opportunity

Aviva Canada Inc. has an excellent opportunity in our Ontario Small Business branch. We are seeking Commercial Lines Auto Underwriters in a Junior and Intermediate level. In this position, you will service a substantial portfolio of commercial auto business requiring a demonstrated underwriting ability and a commitment to customer service excellence. You will be involved in the underwriting of small business Individually Rated Commercial Auto (IRCA) accounts.

👉 We welcome applicants with anywhere from 1 to 5 years of insurance and/or underwriting experience. We will determine level based on experience.

What you’ll do

·Assess and evaluate risk for new and existing business (IRCA)

·Assist more junior underwriters with applying corporate underwriting standards and share knowledge and skills with others in the branch (Intermediate); share knowledge and skills with others in the branch (Junior)

·Analyze reports to determine adequate exposure and loss rating

·Maintain awareness of market trends, pricing levels and policy form amendments

·Negotiate renewal terms for the retention of business

·Utilize loss control and risk management practices in the underwriting process.

·Respond to inquiries from brokers regarding modification to policy files in a prompt and efficient manner.

·Work with brokers to develop new business.

What you’ll bring

For Junior Candidates:

·1–3 years of experience in the insurance industry; exposure to commercial auto underwriting is an asset.

·Foundational underwriting skills and a strong appetite for learning and growth.

·CIP designation in progress or completed (preferred).

For Intermediate Candidates:

·3–5 years of commercial auto underwriting experience, including IRCA.

·Demonstrated technical capability to independently manage a portfolio.

·Ability to provide guidance to junior underwriters.

For Both Levels:

·Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·Strong organizational and administrative skills.

·Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and adaptable.

·Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

·Strong computer skills.

·Ability to meet deadlines and perform effectively under pressure.

·Knowledge of RTM is an asset.

What you’ll get:

  • The salary band for this position ranges from $50,000 to $65,000 for a junior position and from $65,000 to $80,000 for an intermediate. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
