Junior AI Engineer

This role sits at the intersection of Control Risks' Intelligence & Analysis (I&A) and Technology & AI Solutions (TAS) departments.

The Intelligence & Analysis department enables clients to make timely and well-informed decisions through verified intelligence, rigorous analytical methodology and investigative tradecraft. The Technology & AI Solutions department builds and scales the technology, data and AI capabilities that enhance how Control Risks delivers insight, manages information and creates value for clients.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary TAS team and closely alongside I&A analysts, researchers and business leaders, the AI Engineer will design, build and maintain data, software and AI-enabled solutions that strengthen analytical capabilities, improve operational efficiency and support the delivery of client services.

The successful candidate will work across software engineering, data engineering, analytics and applied AI, translating complex business requirements into secure, scalable and sustainable products. They will develop applications, automations, data pipelines and AI-powered workflows that help specialists collect, manage, analyse and act upon information more effectively.

The role offers the opportunity to work on some of Control Risks' most strategically important technology initiatives, helping shape how data, software and AI are applied across intelligence, research, due diligence and advisory workflows. Through close collaboration with subject matter experts, the successful candidate will contribute to both the development of new capabilities and the continuous improvement of existing platforms, services and ways of working

Requirements

What You'll Do:

• Design, develop and maintain data pipelines, integrations and automated workflows that support analytical, operational and commercial requirements.[SD4.1]
• Collect, ingest, transform and manage data from a variety of internal and external sources, ensuring data is accessible, reliable and fit for purpose.
• Build internal web applications, AI-enhanced portals and user interfaces that turn complex business processes into simple digital experiences.[RP5.1]
• Develop and enhance reusable products, tools and capabilities that can be leveraged across multiple business functions and use cases.
• Communicate and consult with internal clients clearly through presentations and demonstrations - delivering both technical and non-technical insights.
• Work closely with business stakeholders to understand requirements, identify opportunities for improvement and translate needs into scalable technical solutions.
• Support the ongoing maintenance, enhancement and adoption of internal applications, data platforms and analytical solutions.
• Develop well-structured, tested and maintainable solutions, applying appropriate standards for version control, documentation, data security and governance.
• Stay informed of emerging technologies, data capabilities and industry best practices, identifying opportunities to improve existing solutions and ways of working.

Who You Are:

• Demonstrable experience working with data, software development, analytics, AI, or related technical disciplines. Experience may have been gained through professional roles, internships, academic projects, or personal initiatives.
• Experience developing solutions using Python or similar programming languages, with an understanding of software development best practices.
• Demonstrated experience using AI-powered development tools, including Claude Code or equivalent solutions, to accelerate software delivery and prototyping.
• Knowledge of data collection, integration, transformation and management techniques, including working with structured and unstructured datasets
• Familiarity with Azure stack, such as Microsoft Fabric, Foundry, SQL, Databricks.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills with good fluency in English.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a global team environment.
• Good interpersonal skills, possessing the confidence to build relationships with all levels of stakeholders.
• Understanding of Git Version control, Agile development, data security, and governance.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with one or more relevant I&A subject areas, such as geopolitical and country risk, due diligence, investigative research, strategic intelligence, security risk or compliance, would be advantageous.
• Experience working with analysts, researchers, consultants or other subject matter experts to develop data, technology or AI-enabled research and decision-support solutions would be advantageous.
• Bachelor’s degree in AI, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering or a related field.
• Certifications in AI, data analysis, engineering or related areas are a plus.
• Knowledge of Power Platform low-code development and business automation is advantageous.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure is preferred.
• Experience in development on both Dataverse and other sources like SharePoint.
• Any Power Platform certification will be an advantage
