Job Purpose

To ensure the safe, accurate, and effective delivery of radiation therapy by performing treatment planning, equipment quality assurance, radiation safety, dosimetry, calibration, and technical support in accordance with applicable regulatory and hospital standards.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Radiation Treatment Planning & Dosimetry

  • Perform radiation dose calculations and treatment planning for patients as prescribed by Radiation Oncologists.
  • Develop and optimize treatment plans using the Treatment Planning System (TPS).
  • Perform dose calculations for 3D-CRT, IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SRS/SBRT and other applicable techniques.
  • Verify treatment plans, monitor dose constraints, and ensure accurate dose delivery.
  • Perform patient-specific quality assurance (PSQA) for applicable treatment techniques.
  • Assist in brachytherapy planning and dosimetry, where applicable.

B. Equipment Quality Assurance

  • Conduct routine quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) of radiation therapy equipment.
  • Perform acceptance testing and commissioning of linear accelerators, CT simulators, brachytherapy units, treatment planning systems, and other radiation equipment.
  • Ensure equipment performance remains within established tolerance limits.
  • Maintain QA records, test results, calibration records, and corrective-action documentation.
  • Coordinate with service engineers/vendors for equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

C. Radiation Safety

  • Ensure compliance with applicable radiation protection and safety requirements.
  • Monitor radiation levels and ensure appropriate radiation shielding and safety measures.
  • Participate in radiation safety audits and investigations of radiation-related incidents.
  • Ensure radiation monitoring devices are appropriately maintained and used.
  • Assist the hospital in maintaining compliance with AERB requirements and other applicable statutory regulations.
  • Support the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) in radiation safety-related activities, where assigned.

D. Clinical & Patient Safety Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Radiation Oncologists, Radiation Therapy Technologists, Radiologists, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Verify treatment prescriptions and treatment parameters before treatment delivery.
  • Identify and report discrepancies, calculation errors, equipment abnormalities, and safety concerns promptly.
  • Participate in incident reporting, root-cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies
