Founded in 1970 and headquartered in Horn Lake, MS, Upchurch has grown through both organic expansion and strategic acquisitions, establishing a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and service excellence. We offer end-to-end solutions—from design and installation to ongoing maintenance and emergency support—helping clients maximize building performance, energy efficiency, and equipment lifespan.

Position Summary

We are seeking highly skilled and dependable Lead Commercial HVAC Service Technicians to support a large commercial service project in Tampa, FL. This role is responsible for independently installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems in accordance with company standards and local building codes.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced diagnostic expertise, strong leadership capability, and a commitment to safety, compliance, and high-quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems including RTUs, chillers, boilers, VAV systems, and split systems.

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting on large-scale applied equipment and chiller systems across multiple facilities.

  • Execute preventative maintenance tasks in accordance with schedules and standards.

  • Utilize diagnostic tools such as multimeters, refrigerant gauges, and leak detectors.

  • Evaluate system performance and recommend repairs or replacements.

  • Complete accurate and detailed service reports using field management software.

  • Maintain clear communication with dispatch, customers, and internal teams.

  • Follow OSHA and company safety standards at all times.

  • Maintain company vehicle, tools, and professional appearance.

Qualifications (Mandatory)

  • EPA 608 Universal Certification

  • Level 2 Background Check (Jessica Lunsford Act Compliance)
Must pass FDLE/FBI fingerprint clearance to access school grounds in Florida.

  • 5+ Years Commercial HVAC Experience
Must be verifiable and performed under a licensed contractor. (Residential-only experience is not sufficient.)

  • Chiller & Applied Equipment Experience
Required experience supporting large commercial chiller plants and applied HVAC systems. (Critical for this project environment.)

  • Multi-Brand RTU Proficiency
Demonstrated experience working across major manufacturers including Carrier, Lennox, Trane, York, and ICP.

  • Proven ability to independently manage service calls from start to finish with minimal supervision.

  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with service documentation and field management systems.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

  • Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and compliance standards.

Preferred Qualifications (Recommended)

  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification (OSHA 10 minimum required; OSHA 30 strongly preferred for lead technicians)

  • NATE Certification (AC or Refrigeration Specialty)

  • Factory Training (Trane, Carrier, or Daikin Applied)

  • Mitsubishi Mini-Split Certification (Diamond Contractor or M-Tech training preferred)

  • Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test (BMCT-II) – Target score 40+/55 for final candidates

  • Working knowledge of BMS/BAS systems

  • Experience with refrigeration or low-temperature systems

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds

  • Comfortable working in confined, elevated, or outdoor environments

  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions

Benefits:

  • Competitive pay based on experience.

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.

  • Paid time off and holiday pay.

  • Opportunities for professional development and certification assistance.
