Lead - OCTG Machine Shop Supervisor

KEY RESPONSBILITIES

• Supervise CNC lathes and threading machines used for OCTG (casing, tubing, drill pipe).

• Ensure threading processes comply with API 5CT, API 7-2, API 5B, ISO 11960 and customer-specific requirements.

• Oversee programming and parameter optimization for threading cycles (spindle speeds, feed rates, tool offsets).

• Validate thread forms (e.g., API Buttress, LTC, STC, Premium connections Like Vam, Hydrill, JFE etc) using gauges and thread profile measurement systems.

• Manage tool selection (carbide inserts, chasers, gauges) for different OCTG grades (J55, K55, N80, L80, P110, etc).

• Supervise machine setup including chucking systems, steady rests, and pipe handling equipment.

• Ensure proper calibration of CNC controls and alignment of threading dies.

• Conduct dimensional inspections using API-certified thread gauges, micrometres, callipers, and CMMs.

• Monitor thread taper, lead, pitch diameter, ovality, and surface finish.

• Maintain inspection records and ensure traceability per API Q1/ISO 9001 standards.

• Implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) for thread accuracy and repeatability.

• Schedule preventive maintenance for CNC machines (spindle bearings, hydraulic systems, coolant systems).

• Troubleshoot mechanical/electrical issues including servo drives, PLCs, and hydraulic chucks.

• Ensure proper lubrication and coolant flow for high-speed threading operations.

• Optimize cycle times while maintaining thread integrity.

• Coordinate with planning teams to meet delivery schedules for OCTG orders.

• Minimize scrap rates through root cause analysis and corrective actions.

• Develop production schedules, track workflow metrics, and adjust resources to meet delivery deadlines.

• Enforce safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures and PPE compliance.

• Train and mentor staff on CNC best practices, tooling selection, and quality standards.

• Collaborate with engineering and QA teams to refine tooling, fixturing, and process flows.

• Maintain inventory of tooling, dies, and consumables while controlling costs.

• Generate daily production, quality, and maintenance reports for leadership review

• ASNT LEVEL II / Diploma in LEEA

SELECTION CRITERIA

• Must have experience in OCTG inspection

• Must have experience in Lifting inspection

• Sound knowledge in all NDT methods/API Standards/ASME/DS-1/NS-2

• Valid NDT cerificates in ASNT Level 2 in MT/PT/UT/VT/ET

• Must have LEEA diploma qualification.
