Lead Protective Services Officer - Richmond Community Hospital

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position  

The Lead Protective Services Officer maintains safety and security for all employees, visitors, and patients. Oversees and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the staff on the shift. Investigates violations of internal procedures, and criminal law violations when required.

Essential Job Functions

• Oversees day to day activities for shift, including but not limited to work assignments, continuity between shifts, report writing, and staffing assistance as needs arise.

• Participates as requested in Manager’s selection of new employees. (Does not hire or recommend hiring but does offer input as requested).

• Coordinates the orientation of new officers to ensure competent performance within a reasonable time and assists in the ongoing staff training program.

• Assists Manager with policy and procedure development, employee’s performance information, supply needs, scheduling, and other projects or investigations as assigned.

• Documents disciplinary infractions and reports same to the Manager for further action.

• Oversees staff in emergency situations, arrest situations, and fire response.

• Compiles statistics and enters data as assigned into databases.

Licensing/Certification

• Valid driver’s license (required)

• Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required within 6 months of hire)

• Ohio Specific - Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Certification (mandatory for police hires, recommended for all others)

Education

High school diploma or GED (required)

Vocational/Technical Degree (preferred)

Work Experience

1 years of security, law enforcement, or military experience (required)

Training

Non-violent crisis intervention training (required within 6 months of hire)

Firearms qualifications; successfully pass bi-annual firearms qualifications if applicable.                                               

Skills

Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills:

​Basic skills using Microsoft Word.

Demonstrate proficiency in the use, maintenance, and safety protocols for defensive tools and restraint equipment (e.g., batons, handcuffs, body-worn cameras, soft restraints), in alignment with healthcare regulations and organizational policies.

Maintain strong technical skills in radio communication, report writing, surveillance systems, and access control software, with the ability to accurately document incidents and coordinate effectively with clinical teams and law enforcement.

Soft/Interpersonal Skills:

Effective communication, active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution.

Minimum: $19.97

Maximum: $29.96
