Learning Diversity Leader

0.8 FTE | Four days per week

St Columba’s Primary School is seeking an experienced and highly capable educator to join our team as Learning Diversity Leader.

This is a significant leadership opportunity for an educator passionate about inclusive education and ensuring students with diverse learning, developmental and complex needs are supported to learn, participate and belong.

The Learning Diversity Leader will lead and coordinate the school’s approach to identifying student needs, planning and reviewing reasonable adjustments, personalised learning, intervention and complex student support. Working closely with school leadership, teachers, Learning Support Officers, families, allied health professionals and external services, the Leader will ensure that support for students is coordinated, purposeful and responsive to evidence.

The position has a strong systems and capacity-building focus. Rather than being responsible for personally delivering all student support, the Learning Diversity Leader will establish effective processes, coordinate people and resources, support staff practice and ensure agreed actions are implemented and reviewed.

Key areas of leadership

The Learning Diversity Leader will provide leadership across:

• student referral, triage and case management;

• Program Support Groups and personalised learning planning;

• educational assessment and coordination of external assessment;

• reasonable adjustments, disability and inclusive education;

• NCCD processes, evidence and compliance;

• Learning Support Officer allocation and deployment;

• learning intervention and progress monitoring;

• coordination with allied health professionals and external services;

• support for students with complex learning, disability and behavioural needs; and

• building the capability of teachers and Learning Support Officers to respond effectively to diverse student needs.

The role works closely with the school’s Curriculum and Wellbeing Leaders. Whole-school mental health, social and emotional learning and MHiPS responsibilities sit within the separate wellbeing portfolio, allowing the Learning Diversity Leader to maintain a clear focus on learning diversity, additional needs, intervention and individual student support.

About you

We are seeking an educator who can combine strong knowledge of inclusive education with excellent leadership, organisation and communication.

The successful applicant will be able to build trusting relationships with students, families and colleagues while also providing clear direction, coordinating complex work and ensuring agreed actions are followed through.

Applicants will hold a recognised teaching qualification and current VIT registration and demonstrate substantial knowledge of learning diversity, disability, reasonable adjustments and personalised learning.

Experience in educational assessment, intervention, NCCD, case management or the coordination of complex student support will be highly regarded. Applicants should hold, or be willing and eligible to obtain, recognised User Level B assessment training within an agreed period.
