About the role

The role is responsible for managing large-scale legal and compliance projects, providing expert counsel, and ensuring the organization’s operations align with legal and regulatory standards. This role also supports junior professionals through coaching and delegation. Recognized subject matter expert in job area. Responsibilities typically include managing large projects or processes autonomously and coaching, reviewing, and delegating work to lower level experts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the legal function for the legal entity, ensuring alignment with corporate legal strategy.
  • Provide legal advice on commercial, corporate, and regulatory matters.
    Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and review of complex contracts and legal documents.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
    Support the resolution of legal disputes and manage litigation in coordination with external legal counsel.
  • Develop and implement legal policies, procedures, and training programs.
    Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support business initiatives and manage legal risks.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and assess their impact on the organization.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop external legal service providers.


Skills & Qualifications

  • Typically a University degree (or equivalent work experience) and 6+ years of relevant work experience are minimally required.
  • Qualified to practice law in China
  • Strong experience in corporate and commercial law, with a focus on contract law and compliance.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Ability to manage complex legal issues and provide strategic legal advice.
  • High ethical standards and sound legal judgment.
  • Experience in a multinational or matrixed organization and industries such as oil and gas, power generation, mining, chemicals and water is preferred.
