Legal Compliance Specialist, Amazon Mexico Legal Team

Mexico City, MexicoOn-siteFull-timeMid · 3+ yearsH1B likely

About this role

Amazon Mexico's Legal Department is looking for a Compliance Specialist to join the Mexico Legal team. This role combines in-depth legal research with front-line execution — translating regulatory mandates into actionable corporate policies that proactively protect consumers while resolving disputes, addressing consumer harm, and ensuring timely redress when compliance gaps materialize. Together, these functions form a continuous, self-reinforcing feedback loop that proactively manages compliance risks.

The ideal candidate must have prior work experience in a professional setting, a cooperative attitude, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. The role requires self-motivation to learn and understand Amazon's operations, identify and analyze relevant laws and regulations, and exercise great judgment in ambiguous situations. This role involves providing written legal guidance and coordination with multiple teams. There is a significant project management component to this role.

Key job responsibilities
• Research a variety of laws and regulations, develop and implement compliance actions, and advise legal and business teams on findings and proposed actions.
• Balance the needs of Amazon's customers and sellers against Amazon's compliance obligations; actively monitor the health of existing compliance controls, handle appeals from the Compliance Operations program, and identify and execute compliance improvements.
• Work across organizations and geographies to scale compliance solutions to match business growth and changing legal risk profiles, including identifying opportunities for operational improvements and collaborating with global legal and operations partners to ensure consistent adoption of best practices and compliance tools.
• Identify systemic compliance gaps surfaced through customer complaints and escalate findings to the Litigation team with recommended remediation plans.
• Conduct thorough legal reviews of outbound communications related to consumer protection claims — including formal responses to regulators, consumer-facing disclosures, and internal escalation correspondence — to ensure accuracy, regulatory alignment, and consistency with applicable consumer protection standards.

Basic Qualifications

- Licenciatura en Derecho (law degree) from a COPAES-accredited Mexican university
- 3+ years of post-qualification experience in regulatory compliance or corporate law
- Fluent in Spanish (written and verbal) with ability to draft and negotiate legal documents

Preferred Qualifications

- Legal experience in any of the following areas: life sciences (for example, medical devices, healthcare, pharmaceuticals), litigation, and consumer protection matters.
- Strong analytical and computer skills.
- A mix of law firm and in-house experience.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through, and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
