About this role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Loading Bay Manager to join our team in Athleague, Co. Roscommon.

Reporting to the Site Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Beef Loading Bay, ensuring the safe, efficient and timely movement and loading of beef carcasses and products for dispatch.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of beef carcasses and meat processing, with previous butchery, carcass handling or meat production experience highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Planning, Production and Transport to ensure daily loading plans are achieved safely and efficiently.
  • Manage the movement and loading of beef carcasses, ensuring the correct product is selected and dispatched to customer requirements.
  • Ensure product quality, identification, traceability and handling standards are maintained throughout the loading process.
  • Monitor stock and carcass movements and investigate any discrepancies with the relevant departments.
  • Ensure loading areas and equipment meet required H&S, hygiene, 5S and housekeeping standards.
  • Manage team training, retraining, H&S standards, holiday cover and the Perfast T&A system.
  • Implement and enforce Group H&S, HR, Food Safety and Quality policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the Technical Manager to address any quality or product issues.
  • Liaise with Site Department Heads to maintain high operational standards and support customer audits.
  • Participate in site routines and meetings, including planning and daily operational reviews.

 

Stock & Dispatch

  • Manage the receipt, storage, movement and dispatch of beef carcasses and products.
  • Maintain accurate stock control and full traceability of carcass movements.
  • Ensure carcasses are handled and loaded correctly to minimise product damage and maintain customer specifications.
  • Manage off-site/maturing stock movements where required.
  • Ensure daily loading deadlines are achieved in line with customer and transport requirements.

 

People Management

  • Lead and motivate the Loading Bay team to maximise efficiency and meet daily deadlines.
  • Ensure employees are trained and competent in carcass handling, loading procedures, food safety and H&S.
  • Manage attendance, performance and holiday cover within the team.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, productivity and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Experience in a beef/meat processing environment is essential.
  • Previous butchery, carcass handling, slaughtering, boning or meat production experience would be highly advantageous.
  • A good practical understanding of beef carcasses, product specifications and handling requirements.
  • Previous people management or supervisory experience.
  • Strong understanding of H&S, food safety, hygiene and traceability.
  • Confident decision-maker with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Good planning, organisational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
