An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Government & Public Sector Solicitor to join the growing national practice of a leading international law firm, based in Birmingham.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Legal Director, Senior Associate or experienced Associate with a strong background in public procurement, subsidy control, grant funding and commercial contracts.

The team has an excellent reputation nationally and is involved in some of the UK's most significant public procurement, regeneration and public funding projects. The successful candidate will work with a broad range of clients, including government departments, Mayoral Combined Authorities, local authorities and private sector organisations.

As a senior member of the team, you will have the opportunity to take responsibility for complex matters, develop trusted client relationships and play an important role in the continued growth of the practice.

The Role

You will advise public and private sector clients across a broad range of government and commercial matters, including:

Public procurement and procurement strategy.
Subsidy Control.
Grant funding and grant programmes.
Commercial contracts.
Public sector projects and regeneration.
Drafting and negotiating complex agreements and procurement documentation.
Providing commercially focused advice to clients on complex and high-profile projects.

You will have significant client contact and will work closely with Partners and senior stakeholders across the wider national Commercial team.

There will also be an opportunity to become involved in business development, client relationship management and the continued development of the firm's Government & Public Sector offering.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a qualified solicitor with strong experience advising on public sector and commercial matters, particularly public procurement, grant funding, subsidy control and/or related commercial work.

You will ideally have:

Significant experience within public procurement, subsidy control, grant funding and/or public sector commercial work.
A good understanding of central, regional and local government and the environment in which public sector clients operate.
Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
A commercially minded approach and the ability to understand clients' wider objectives.
Excellent client relationship and communication skills.
The ability to manage complex matters and competing deadlines.
An interest in business development and growing client relationships.
A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a national team.

Previous in-house experience within the public sector or Government Legal Department would be advantageous but is not essential.

The firm is open to candidates at different levels and would welcome applications from experienced Associates and Senior Associates, as well as high-performing Senior Associates looking to make their first move into a Legal Director position.
