The Logistics and Shipping Scheduler is responsible for the overall planning and execution and delivery performance of their assigned site. They will be responsible for executing strategies cascaded from the corporate logistics team and the Supply Chain Organization. The Scheduler interacts daily with external providers to meet the logistics needs of the business and the site. The Scheduler develops and adjusts the bulk and packaged shipment plan which may include domestic and international destinations and truck, rail, air or ocean transport.
JOB SUMMARY
The Logistics and Shipping Scheduler is responsible for the overall planning and execution and delivery performance of their assigned site. The Scheduler interacts daily with external providers to meet the logistics needs of the business and the site. The Scheduler develops and adjusts the bulk and packaged shipment plan which may include domestic and international destinations and truck, rail, air or ocean transport.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Transportation & Shipment Scheduling
- Coordinate daily shipments with common and contract carriers, ocean carriers, drayage providers, freight forwarders, NVOCCs, and 3PL partners.
- Select and schedule carriers based on service reliability, cost, route requirements, production constraints, and customer delivery commitments.
- Manage transportation challenges and capacity constraints while maintaining high levels of on-time delivery.
- Coordinate domestic, export, bulk, packaged, and inter-site stock transfer shipments.
- SAP & Logistics Execution
- Create and manage deliveries and shipments in SAP, including customer orders and stock transport orders.
- Consolidate LTL shipments and identify opportunities to optimize loads and transportation costs.
- Monitor SAP logistics control reports and shipment status to maintain accurate, timely execution.
- Resolve SAP and warehouse management issues affecting shipments.
- Carrier & Vendor Management
- Serve as the primary site contact for Corporate Logistics and transportation providers.
- Evaluate carrier performance, service quality, reliability, pricing, and capacity.
- Build effective relationships with carriers and logistics vendors and negotiate transportation-related costs and services.
- Support development of primary and backup carrier networks for critical transportation lanes.
- Review and resolve freight, detention, demurrage, and accessorial charges.
- Shipping Documentation & Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare and verify bills of lading, delivery documents, packing lists, certificates of analysis, customs invoices, wood packaging documentation, and other required shipping documentation.
- Ensure shipments comply with applicable DOT, IATA, IMDG, customs, hazardous materials, and international shipping requirements.
- Maintain accurate product labeling, placarding, and shipping documentation.
- Support export shipments and coordinate required documentation with carriers and forwarding agents.
- Customer Service & Issue Resolution
- Partner closely with Customer Service, Production, Plant Management, and Planning to resolve shipment constraints and meet customer requirements.
- Investigate transportation-related customer complaints and freight claims.
- Coordinate corrective actions with carriers, logistics providers, and plant personnel to prevent recurrence.
- Communicate shipment delays, material availability issues, and transportation constraints proactively.
- Continuous Improvement & Cost Management
- Identify opportunities to improve transportation efficiency, reduce freight costs, minimize detention and demurrage, and improve on-time delivery.
- Review and approve freight invoices and resolve discrepancies with logistics providers.
- Partner with Corporate Logistics to expand qualified carrier capacity and improve transportation network resilience.
- Support logistics planning for plant outages, production disruptions, labor constraints, and other operational challenges.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related discipline; or
- Associate degree with at least two years of relevant logistics experience; or equivalent relevant experience.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing logistics, plant logistics, transportation, supply chain, or a related field.
- Experience working with SAP or a comparable ERP/MRP system.
- Experience coordinating transportation carriers, freight forwarders, or logistics providers.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in a chemical, specialty chemical, industrial, or other regulated manufacturing environment.
- DOT, IATA, IMDG, or hazardous materials shipping certification/training.
- Experience with bulk chemical transportation.
- International/export shipping experience.
- Experience with 3PL providers and freight forwarders.
- Experience managing freight claims, customer complaints, detention, demurrage, and accessorial costs.
- Strong understanding of SAP logistics and warehouse management processes.
