Join a team that keeps North Carolina’s agricultural industry moving! In partnership with the USDA and NCDA, the Cooperative Grading Service ensures fair, reliable grading for fruits, vegetables, and peanuts statewide.

As a Maintenance/Construction Technician III, you’ll take on advanced maintenance and repair of specialized grading equipment, including Farmer Stock (FS) peanut machinery. You’ll work hands-on with fabrication, welding, and equipment such as Pneumatic and Automatic Samplers using articulating lifts—sometimes at heights up to 50 feet. This role also requires strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software, and the ability to generate letters and reports to support daily operations.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $41,206 - $60,000

• Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, and materials used in general maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery in a hot and cold environment

• Skill in the use of tools required in various technically complex trades.

• Ability to operate the more common types of machine shop or woodworking power equipment

• Ability to guide, plan, delegate, and lead others

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification:

May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
