Maintenance Supervisor

Reporting to the Plant Engineer / Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading daily maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability, plant safety, operational efficiency, and employee development. This role supports the Sonoco Performance System (SPS) and Maintenance Excellence initiatives by driving preventive and predictive maintenance programs, improving equipment performance, and developing a highly skilled maintenance team.

What you'll be doing:

• Lead and promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with all company, federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
• Support and reinforce the Sonoco Performance System (SPS) through disciplined execution of maintenance processes, continuous improvement initiatives, and standard work practices.
• Drive equipment reliability and uptime through effective preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance practices.
• Champion the Sonoco Maintenance Excellence process to improve OEE, reduce downtime, and optimize maintenance costs.
• Supervise, coach, and develop maintenance personnel to ensure the team possesses the skills and capabilities required to perform safely and effectively.
• Plan, prioritize, and coordinate maintenance activities to support production requirements and customer commitments.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts and apply root cause analysis tools to identify and eliminate recurring equipment failures.
• Manage maintenance work schedules, contractor activity, and vendor relationships to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
• Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives utilizing SPS, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
• Identify and implement equipment and process improvements that enhance safety, productivity, quality, and reliability.
• Monitor maintenance spending and resource utilization while identifying opportunities to reduce costs and improve overall performance.
• Build and maintain productive relationships that foster employee engagement, accountability, and teamwork.
• Provide direction, training, coaching, and performance management for maintenance employees.
• Collaborate with operations, quality, engineering, and leadership teams to achieve plant objectives and continuously improve business results.
• Serve as a key member of the plant leadership team by driving accountability, problem-solving, and operational excellence.

This position is located in Hartselle, AL.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

• Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, machine safeguarding requirements, and industrial safety practices.
• Proven leadership ability with experience developing, coaching, and motivating employees in a manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, and industrial control systems.
• Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Proficiency with root cause analysis techniques such as 5 Why, FMEA, and other structured problem-solving methods.
• Strong organizational, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and a sense of urgency.
• Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as SPS, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen.
• Ability to analyze maintenance and operational data to identify trends and drive performance improvements.
• Experience with CMMS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to manage maintenance costs, contractor performance, and maintenance resources.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar technical drawing software is preferred.
• Ability to effectively communicate maintenance priorities, risks, and improvement opportunities.

• You have 3+ years of maintenance supervisory or leadership experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• You have experience leading maintenance teams and improving equipment reliability, safety performance, and operational results.
• You have demonstrated success supporting continuous improvement and driving measurable equipment and process enhancements.
• You have experience with CMMS systems, preventive maintenance programs, reliability initiatives, and root cause analysis.
• An associate's or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Manufacturing, or a related technical field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
• You are a hands-on leader with strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and a passion for developing people and improving equipment performance.

Compensation: 

Maintenance Supervisor: The annual base salary range for this role is from $104,800 to $117,900 plus quarterly target bonus of 12.5% of base salary.
