See Yourself in the Team

At CommBank, Risk Management plays a critical role in protecting the Group’s interests through insightful risk leadership and an independent, commercially minded approach to managing risk. Within Risk Management, the Consumer Finance & Collections - Credit Strategy & Assurance crew provides independent oversight and strategic assurance across some of Australia’s largest consumer lending and collections portfolios, spanning Credit Cards, Personal Loans, Buy Now Pay Later and Retail Collections. This breadth provides a unique view across the customer credit lifecycle, from portfolio growth and performance through to customer support, recovery and long-term portfolio outcomes.

You'll be joining a highly collaborative team that values curiosity, critical thinking and intellectual rigour. Success comes from looking beyond the numbers, understanding the underlying drivers of portfolio performance and translating complex data into meaningful insights that influence strategy, strengthen decision-making and create better outcomes for customers, the business and the wider community.

Your Impact & Contribution

As Manager, Credit Risk, you will play a key role in providing risk leadership across our Consumer Finance & Retail Collections portfolios. You will combine deep portfolio insight, analytical expertise and sound commercial judgement to identify emerging risks and opportunities, influence credit risk strategy and support high-quality decision-making. Working in a highly visible and strategically important role, you may expect to:

  • Develop a deep understanding of portfolio performance, customer behaviours and external market conditions to identify emerging risks, opportunities and areas requiring management attention.

  • Generate meaningful insights through the interpretation of quantitative analysis, qualitative observations and broader economic, regulatory and competitive factors, helping stakeholders understand not only what is happening, but why.

  • Assess complex and often competing drivers of portfolio outcomes, applying sound judgement to distinguish meaningful signals from noise and identify the factors most likely to influence future portfolio performance.

  • Influence the development and evolution of credit risk strategies through trusted advice, evidence-based recommendations and constructive challenge of material business decisions.

  • Translate sophisticated analytical findings into clear, compelling narratives, executive reporting and commercially sound recommendations for senior stakeholders and governance forums.

  • Partner across Risk, Product and the broader business to evaluate the impact of customer, portfolio, economic and regulatory developments, balancing strategic opportunity with prudent risk management.

  • Foster a culture of analytical excellence, intellectual curiosity and sound risk judgement by mentoring emerging talent, sharing expertise and embedding best-practice risk management principles and behaviours across the team.

Your Skills & Experience

You're an intellectually curious and commercially astute Risk professional who thrives on solving complex problems, uncovering the stories within data and turning insight into action. Equally comfortable with quantitative analysis and qualitative nuance, you can connect portfolio performance, customer behaviour, economic trends and regulatory developments to form balanced, evidence-based recommendations.

You’ll combine strong technical and analytical capability with commercial pragmatism to constructively challenge thinking, bring new perspectives to complex problems and influence strategic direction and operational outcomes. You’ll be confident translating complex analysis into clear recommendations and engaging senior stakeholders to drive meaningful decisions. To achieve this, you'll likely bring:

  • Significant experience in Credit Risk, Risk Analytics, Portfolio Management, Credit Strategy, Quantitative Risk or a closely related discipline within financial services.
  • Deep portfolio analytics expertise, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and identify the underlying drivers of customer, portfolio and risk outcomes.
