What you'll do

  • Assume management responsibilities for the field compaction testing program. This involves tracking certifications, calibrations, resource schedules, and revenue tracking and forecasting.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and provide technical directions to field staff.

  • Identify and communicate quality issues and non-conforming work.
  • Review field reports, test results, technical documentation, and daily records.
  • Provide technical oversight on reporting and documentation.
  • Coordinate with laboratory operations and support CCIL quality requirements.
  • Act as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or alternate, as required.
  • Support proposals, client relationships, and business development activities.
  • Promote and maintain strong health and safety practices across field and laboratory operations

  • Experience performing or overseeing laboratory testing such as sieve analysis, Proctor, concrete strength, hydrometer, Atterberg limits, and specific gravity.
  • Experience inspecting concrete & reinforcing steel, asphalt, foundations, water resources infrastructure, or other civil construction inspections.
  • Experience performing or overseeing geotechnical, hydrogeological, or environmental field investigations.

We are seeking an experienced Materials Testing Field Lead to provide technical leadership and oversight of construction materials testing, inspection, and geotechnical field activities across Canada.

Position Summary

This is a hands-on leadership role focused primarily on soil and compaction testing, with additional responsibilities for site inspections and other construction QA/QC activities.

The successful candidate will supervise and mentor field staff, work directly with clients and contractors, and ensure testing and inspection activities meet project specifications, ASTM/CSA standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Physical & Travel Requirements

· Up to 90% travel-based position dependent on project and staffing requirements, with preference given to candidates from Eastern Canada (Southern Ontario, Quebec, and East Coast) or the following office locations: Calgary, Missisauga, or Moncton.

· Comfortable working extended periods away from home and on remote or active construction sites.

· Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 50+ lbs.

· Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical field activities including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
