Job Description:

Brooks Instrument (www.brooksinstrument.com), an industry leader in flow and pressure instrumentation for critical applications, is seeking candidates for a Mechanical Engineering Technician position that will be based at the company headquarters in Hatfield, Pennsylvania (suburban Philadelphia). Basic Function

Work with the Systems Automation Group to fabricate electro-mechanical equipment for test and calibration in worldwide operations.  Support manufacturing technical issues as deemed necessary by the group supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, and integrate ultra-high purity (UHP) gas delivery systems including gas panels, manifolds, flow delivery systems, and test bench hardware.

  • Build and modify mechanical assemblies, chassis, fixtures, and support equipment using mechanical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation.

  • Bend, route, and install stainless steel tubing and high-purity fittings while maintaining proper assembly techniques and cleanliness requirements.

  • Assemble, troubleshoot, and validate mechanical and electromechanical systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.

  • Support production equipment by diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electromechanical issues, performing repairs, and making improvements.

  • Interpret mechanical drawings, piping diagrams, electrical schematics, and flow diagrams for both new and legacy equipment.

  • Work independently on complex assignments requiring sound mechanical judgement, creativity, and problem solving.

  • Work with vendors to identify and procure components by researching products, requesting quotes, and completing purchase requisitions.

  • Manage multiple concurrent assignments while maintaining high standards of quality, organization, and attention to detail.

  • Regular attendance in person required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience assembling, fabricating, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical systems.

  • Experience building ultra-high purity (UHP) gas systems, including gas panels and manifolds, valves, regulators, and compression fittings preferred.

  • Experience bending, routing, and installing stainless steel tubing while maintaining leak free connections.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and flow diagrams.

  • Experience with leak testing, pressure testing, and validating mechanical system performance preferred.

  • Welding experience, proficiency with CAD, and connecting to PCs and DAQ hardware is a plus.

  • Ability to get along with others in a team environment and to follow all safety procedures.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 2 years experience in a related field.

  • Technical Associates degree required.

Physical Demands

     

Individual must be physically fit with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. On occasion may need to kneel, crawl and work in cramped areas. Occasional travel may be required with flight times greater than 14 hours.
