What you'll do
- Review and analyze medical records, tests, and clinical reports to accurately assign appropriate ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes and modifiers in accordance with established coding guidelines.
- Abstract and enter medical codes and required demographic information into electronic systems and encounter forms.
- Identify and help resolve incomplete or missing documentation to support timely and accurate billing.
- Partner with medical and clinical staff to provide education and support related to coding practices and documentation requirements.
- Participate in quality assurance, performance measurement, and coding improvement initiatives.
- Monitor coding activity and communicate potential backlogs, documentation issues, irregularities, or trends to leadership.
- Collaborate with coding and billing teams to promote accuracy, efficiency, and consistency.
- Complete medical record abstracts and coding activities supporting regulatory requirements, physician peer review, quality initiatives, research, utilization review, and hospital planning.
- Maintain current knowledge of coding and billing regulations, payer requirements, and federal and state guidelines.
- Participate in meetings, educational programs, seminars, and professional development opportunities.
- Follow departmental policies, procedures, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Medical Coding Specialist plays an essential role in ensuring accurate coding, billing, documentation, and regulatory compliance by translating complex medical record information into appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes. - Full-time
- 8:00am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5:00pm
LOCATION:
Fully remote work opportunity – Candidate MUST live in the following states: AZ, CT,FL, ME, MA, NH, OH, PA, RI, TX,VT
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree in Medical Terminology, Required
- Certified Coding Specialist AHIMA, preferred
