What you'll do

  • Review and analyze medical records, tests, and clinical reports to accurately assign appropriate ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes and modifiers in accordance with established coding guidelines.
  • Abstract and enter medical codes and required demographic information into electronic systems and encounter forms.
  • Identify and help resolve incomplete or missing documentation to support timely and accurate billing.
  • Partner with medical and clinical staff to provide education and support related to coding practices and documentation requirements.
  • Participate in quality assurance, performance measurement, and coding improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor coding activity and communicate potential backlogs, documentation issues, irregularities, or trends to leadership.
  • Collaborate with coding and billing teams to promote accuracy, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Complete medical record abstracts and coding activities supporting regulatory requirements, physician peer review, quality initiatives, research, utilization review, and hospital planning.
  • Maintain current knowledge of coding and billing regulations, payer requirements, and federal and state guidelines.
  • Participate in meetings, educational programs, seminars, and professional development opportunities.
  • Follow departmental policies, procedures, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Medical Coding Specialist plays an essential role in ensuring accurate coding, billing, documentation, and regulatory compliance by translating complex medical record information into appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes. If you have a strong understanding of medical coding, enjoy analyzing clinical documentation, and take pride in accuracy and quality, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact behind the scenes of patient care.

SCHEDULE:

  • Full-time
  • 8:00am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5:00pm

LOCATION:

Fully remote work opportunity – Candidate MUST live in the following states: AZ, CT,FL, ME, MA, NH, OH, PA, RI, TX,VT

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Associates degree in Medical Terminology, Required
  • Certified Coding Specialist AHIMA, preferred

Compensation

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

$25.26 - $29.03 - $34.33
