About this role

About Us

At ANZ, we're shaping a world where people and communities thrive, driven by a common goal: to improve the financial wellbeing and sustainability of our millions of customers.

About the Role

This role provides senior second line operational risk oversight, challenge and advice across the Wealth portfolio within Business & Private Banking. The role requires strong risk craft and deep subject matter expertise in wealth, investment, advice, superannuation, trustee, platform, remediation or related customer and regulatory environments. The successful person must be able to form an independent risk view, test whether controls work in practice, identify customer and regulatory exposure, and join the dots across product, process, data, technology, distribution and change.

Role Type: Permanent
Role Location: Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane
Work Hours: Full-Time

What will your day look like?

  • Lead second line review and challenge of material Wealth risks, controls, issues, incidents, risk acceptances and remediation plans.
  • Perform targeted risk reviews using clear scope, population definition, sampling approach, evidence testing, issue identification and practical recommendations.
  • Assess control design and operating effectiveness, including whether controls address the real risk cause, cover the full customer journey and are supported by reliable evidence.
  • Challenge first line risk assessments, control self-assessments, issue closure packs and risk profiles where the evidence, rating, rationale or action plan is weak.
  • Bring deep SME knowledge to complex Wealth matters, including customer outcomes, advice obligations, conflicts, disclosure, fees, platform operations, complaints and remediation.
  • Identify emerging risk themes across Wealth products, processes, systems, service providers, data flows and change initiatives.
  • Prepare clear Voice of Risk positions for governance forums, with concise exposure statements, customer and regulatory impacts, and specific actions required.
  • Use data, sampling results, event information, complaints, audit findings and control metrics to form evidence-based risk opinions.
  • Work across adjacent portfolios where needed, translating Wealth risk insight into broader operational risk themes across Business & Private Banking.
  • Coach risk colleagues on risk review quality, risk articulation, control testing, sampling discipline and effective challenge.

What will you bring?

  • Deep Wealth SME experience is essential, ideally across investment products, advice, platforms, superannuation, trustee services, remediation, complaints, distribution or related regulatory obligations.
  • Strong second line, operational risk, compliance, audit, assurance or regulatory review experience in financial services.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute risk reviews, including setting scope, defining populations, selecting samples, testing evidence and writing findings.
  • Practical understanding of control design, operating effectiveness, control failure indicators, compensating controls and issue closure validation.
  • Ability to identify the actual risk exposure, not just repeat the business issue or causal factor.
  • Experience challenging senior stakeholders using evidence, sound judgement and clear recommendations.
  • Strong ability to connect risks across customer journeys, products, systems, data, processes, service providers and change initiatives.
  • Comfort working across portfolios and stepping into unfamiliar areas while quickly building enough SME context to form a defensible risk view.
  • Clear, concise writing style for committee papers, executive updates, risk opinions and issue or remediation challenge.
  • Enough depth and judgement to operate independently, hold the line on risk, and lift the standard of risk craft across the team.
