Mission Critical Facility Lead Mechanical Engineer

How far do you usually get to follow your own design? Most mechanical engineers hand over at the end of detailed design and hear nothing until something goes wrong. This role runs the whole way, which is worth understanding before you decide whether it appeals.

At the start you set the scope, the design objectives and the management objectives for your mechanical work packages, then keep the documentation complete and the information flow under control as the project grows.

Through procurement you write the technical specifications and tender documents, pre-qualify the contractors and evaluate what comes back, so the people building it are people you chose.

As the numbers firm up you support cost preparation and carry out the risk assessments for work happening in live environments.

At the factory and on site you represent the client at factory acceptance testing and stay involved through commissioning, which is where you find out whether the design does what you said it would.

Throughout you are the one telling stakeholders where each package really stands.

Our client is an international engineering and design consultancy whose global Mission Critical Facilities team designs for colocation providers, internet service providers and telecoms companies, covering electrical, mechanical and construction engineering across one team.

What you need

• Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering
• Around ten years of relevant mechanical design experience
• Data centre design experience in mission critical or high availability environments
• Solid understanding of redundancy principles, operational constraints and reliability driven design
• Strong knowledge of design and construction standards and compliance
• Multidisciplinary project experience through detailed design
• The confidence to make decisions in an international project environment

Salary and benefits

€65,000 to €95,000 base salary depending on experience, with an 18.3% employer pension contribution, a 2.15% personal budget and annual profit sharing on top. Twenty-eight holiday days with the option to buy up to 16.5 more, hybrid working with flexible hours, a working from home allowance, an NS Business Card and a higher allowance for cycling or walking to work.
