About this role

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Love fashion, food, design, travel and the stories behind them? Join Viva, the NZ Herald’s award-winning lifestyle brand, and help create content that inspires New Zealanders.

From smart written features and social-first storytelling to newsletters, events and digital experiences, you'll create engaging content that connects with audiences wherever they are. Whether it's spotting the next big trend, uncovering a compelling personality, or producing an impactful Instagram Reel, you'll know how to turn great ideas into content people want to read, watch and share.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

  • Creating timely, engaging lifestyle content across Viva and Herald Lifestyle.

  • Writing compelling features, profiles and advice-driven stories that inform, inspire and entertain.

  • Producing content across multiple platforms including digital, social, newsletters, video and print.

  • Developing social-first content and helping grow Viva’s audience and engagement.

  • Pitching fresh, original story ideas that resonate with both loyal readers and new audiences.

  • Building strong industry relationships and growing your network of contacts.

  • Using audience insights, analytics and SEO best practice to maximise reach and impact.

  • Collaborating with editors, producers, designers and content teams to bring stories to life.

  • Supporting Viva events and special projects when required.

ABOUT YOU:

  • At least two years' experience in digital journalism, publishing or content creation.

  • Outstanding writing skills and the ability to adapt your storytelling across different platforms and formats.

  • A deep interest in lifestyle media, and how to tell stories that help, inspire and entertain audiences. Strong social media instincts and experience creating engaging digital and video content.

  • An audience-first mindset, with confidence using analytics, SEO and research to shape content decisions.

  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment with multiple deadlines.

  • Experience with content management systems (CMS).

  • A collaborative approach, plenty of curiosity, and a constant flow of fresh ideas.
