Mural Pay - Forward Deployed Engineer

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will have the opportunity to join our growing Engineering team and report to the Head of Engineering and CTO. You'll sit at the intersection of our customers and our core product — embedding directly with clients, shipping custom functionality against real-world problems, and bringing the best of what you build back into Mural's core platform. This is a role for engineers who want to operate at the edge: iterating daily with customers, owning outcomes end-to-end, and turning bespoke solutions into durable product.

Responsibilities

• Deploy directly into customer environments — understand their business, their constraints, their data, and their pain points better than anyone at Mural

• Build custom integrations, workflows, and features on top of Mural's platform and APIs to solve real customer problems, often on aggressive timelines

• Work across the full stack with our modern toolchain — TypeScript + React, NestJS + Postgres + Prisma, AWS (SQS/SNS/Lambda), Vercel, Docker

• Identify patterns across customer implementations and collaborate with core engineering to generalize bespoke work into first-class product features

• Rapidly prototype against live customer workflows — accepting that some work is throwaway and making sure the work that isn't gets productized properly — while debugging production issues in real time, often with customers watching

• Design for correctness and audit-ability — you're touching money movement infrastructure, and edge cases have real consequences

• Communicate crisply with both technical and non-technical stakeholders — customer operators, engineers, founders, and finance leaders

• Work directly with our CTO and engineering leadership to set a high quality bar and define what "forward deployed" looks like at Mural

• 4–10 years of experience in full-stack engineering, ideally customer-facing
