What you'll do

  • Support the Payroll Lead in the accurate and timely processing of fortnightly and ad-hoc out-of-cycle payrolls.
  • Process payroll transactions, including allowances, overtime, leave payments, expense reimbursements and payroll adjustments.
  • Apply payroll provisions contained within Enterprise Agreements, Awards and employment contracts in accordance with established payroll processes.
  • Review payroll inputs associated with rostered employees, shift workers and operational workforces.
  • Respond to routine employee payroll enquiries relating to pay, leave, taxation, superannuation and deductions.
  • Escalate complex payroll, industrial or legislative matters to the Payroll Lead as required.
  • Maintain employee payroll records and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with payroll tax, superannuation, workers compensation and other payroll-related reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with HR and Finance to support employee lifecycle changes including new starters, transfers, remuneration changes and terminations.
  • Assist with payroll reconciliations, audits and reporting activities.

  • Sound understanding of Australian payroll taxation, superannuation and terminations including taxation

  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills with the ability to establish relationships at all levels.

  • Degree qualified in Payroll & Bookkeeping or Finance is desirable.

Role Summary

The Payroll Officer supports the accurate and timely processing of payroll across the Australian business. Reporting to the Payroll Lead, the role is responsible for processing payroll transactions, maintaining payroll records, assisting with payroll compliance activities and responding to routine payroll enquiries.

 

The position requires experience working within a complex payroll environment, including exposure to Enterprise Agreements, roster-based workforces and payroll-related legislation. The successful candidate will be able to process payroll activities with a high degree of accuracy and work independently on day-to-day payroll matters while collaborating with Finance, Human Resources and operational stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The candidate will need to demonstrate the following competencies to execute the job responsibilities.

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • General knowledge of accounting principles and booking practices
  • Degree qualified in Payroll & Bookkeeping or Finance is desirable.

 

Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years' payroll experience within a medium-to-large-tier organization with experience with payroll on multi-union agreements would be beneficial
