  • Maintains records, NOPR and insurance duties.
  • Collects and maintains records per hospital procedure and NRC requirements.
  • Ensures insurance pre-authorization is obtained for all PET scans and unsealed source treatments.

General Summary

  • The Nuclear Medicine Technologist / PET/CT Technologist is responsible for performing the highest standard diagnostic and therapeutic exams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs Nuclear Medicine duties.
  • Good patient relationship skills and customer service skills.
  • Attention to details and accurate record keeping.
  • Calculates, measures and records radiation dosage of radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed.
  • Explains test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provides them with assistance during test procedures.
  • Administers radiopharmaceutical or radiation to patients to detect or treat diseases, using radioisotope equipment.
  • Receives, stores and disposes of radioactive materials, following radiation safety procedures.
  • Schedules appointments and notifies appropriate parties of such action.

  • Enters charges for patient billing accurately.
  • Oversees the scheduling of the scanner.
  • Obtains CT scans, PET/CT scans and assists with diagnostic studies.
  • Operates the scanner with diagnostic and therapeutic departments. Assists with biopsies, therapy planning and other procedures.
  • Performs daily warm-up and safety checks according to procedure.
  • Assists in collection of Quality Improvement data.
  • Reports any machine malfunction to physicist, director or physician, reports any errors immediately.
  • Trains and supervises student and/or other nuclear medicine techs.

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nuclear Medicine Technology program (ARRT or NMTCB).


Work Experience

  • Nuclear Medicine experience required; 3 years preferred.
  • CT experience preferred but not required; PET experience preferred but not required.


Certification/License

  • Current Nuclear Medicine board certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certifying Board (NMTCB). Current American Heart Association BLS certification required.

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Close mental and visual attention required for sustained periods of time. Frequently works under stressful conditions due to the nature of patients’ disease. Maximum weight to be lifted independently or carried: 35 lbs. standing, moderate walking, carrying, turning, stooping and reaching required. Adequate sight, hearing and sitting for periods of time. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely. General knowledge of computers required.


Working Conditions

  • Standard radiation worker safety health hazards inherent in this position. Exposure to radioactive materials requires radiation safety practices be utilized. Exposure to blood/body fluid, infectious diseases and biohazard materials at times. Flexible schedule and on-call status as scheduled.
