$128,939.20 - $232,107.20

(based on a full time schedule of 40 hours per week).

Please note that the final offer will vary based on scheduled hours. Compensation for part-time or reduced schedules will be prorated based on scheduled weekly hours, experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

This position is responsible for the day to day operations of the Pharmacy Department including drug distribution processes, automated dispensing systems, IV systems and processes, quality improvement, performance improvement, staffing and scheduling, technology solutions, human resource development, training, billing and overall management of the department.

Responsibilities also include the enforcement of performance standards, developing efficient staffing patterns, participating in interviewing candidates for open positions, training new employees, conducting annual performance appraisals and approving vacation time, personal time, etc.

This position assumes a leadership role in formulating policy and instituting practice models that promote medication safety and pharmaceutical care in all aspects of the medication management process.

Responsibilities include assisting the Director of Pharmacy with all aspects of medication management and clinical services, distributive functions, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements (JCAHO, DPH, FDA, etc.).

Major Responsibilities:

Job duties as a Manager:

• As a member of a Director’s management team, this position is responsible for contributing to the development and execution of strategies and goals for the division. 
• Demonstrates effective leadership skills of delegation, organization, and coordination in managing the daily operations of departments within the incumbent’s area responsibility.
• Develops, recommends, monitors and manages operating budgets to optimize financial performance.
• Develops and utilizes performance metrics to continually improve quality and operating efficiency.
• Ensures adequate skills training and development among staff.  Provides and encourages effective coaching. 

Clinical Leadership Responsibilities:

• Conceptualizes, designs, demonstrates, documents in formulating policy and instituting practice models that promote medication safety in all aspects of the medication management process.
• Provides leadership and direction to the pharmacist staff in such a way that all professional activities performed are consistent with hospital, and departmental mission, objectives, and policies. 
• Develops, implements, and evaluates treatment guidelines that address cost-effective and appropriate drug therapy. 
• Coordinates the development of criteria for safe and effective medication use as well as monitor the compliance with established criteria and other quality improvement programs such as the Medication Use Committee of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (P & T). 
• Implements clinical trending reports and other quality assurance activities as indicated to ensure appropriate and safe drug utilization; Organizes, design, and conduct drug utilization evaluations.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

• Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. Degree.
• Pharmacist Massachusetts licensure.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in business administration or other management degree.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

• Strong understanding of systems, technology and IV room processes.
• Strong understanding of state and federal regulatory requirements.
• Excellent customer service and communications skills with the ability to effectively interact and problem solve with managers of other departments.
• Substantial knowledge in project management, performance improvement, risk.
• Management principles, patient safety and planning.
• In depth knowledge of pharmacy distribution systems, automated dispensing, CPOE, I.V. compounders, packagers, bar code applications, supply chain solutions.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, especially related to health care colleagues.
•  Skilled at building relationships.
• Highly energetic, motivated, and resourceful with an extremely positive attitude.
• Must have a passion for continually improving processes.
• Proficient with office systems and computers, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Preferred:

• Two to five years of experience in hospital pharmacy in a supervisory/management role.
