About this role

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and optimise backend applications using PHP (7/8.1) and Node.js.
  • Write clean, efficient and testable code while adhering to established development standards and best practices.
  • Analyse business requirements and enhance existing applications by identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Troubleshoot, debug and resolve application defects, managing issues through the defect tracking system.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including specifications and test plans.
  • Monitor system performance and provide ongoing technical support.
  • Research and implement new technologies to improve application performance and scalability.

Skills & Experience

  • Proficiency in PHP with commercial backend development experience; knowledge of Node.js is desirable.
  • Experience developing applications within an n-tier architecture.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles.
  • Experience with Symfony 4/5 and Doctrine ORM.
  • Working knowledge of Vue.js.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, SQL and MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ and Redis.
  • Experience using distributed version control systems, such as Git.
  • Good understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS or a related discipline, or equivalent commercial experience.
