Overview

Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute is currently seeking a Plumber Maintenance Worker III to join the Institute’s Facilities Team.

 

Under general supervision, the Plumber Maintenance Worker III will perform routine and emergency maintenance, repair, modification and install, maintains and repairs a wide variety of commercial plumbing systems.   Inspects, repairs, installs, modifies and maintains plumbing fixtures in heating; water and drainage systems.  This will also include identifying plumbing, and safety problems applicable to the installation and take necessary corrective action.  The individual will perform necessary clerical duties associated with job and must able to read blue prints.  Must be available for weekend on-call duties occasionally. Will perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.  

 

Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma, Journeyman’s plumber license EE-98J is required and 4+ years of directly-related maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.  Prior documented experience working with HVAC-R, plumbing, boiler operations, supply and exhaust fans, pumps, evaporative coolers, air filtration systems, gas fired heaters and minor electrical experience is strongly preferred.

 

Must have demonstrated skills in plumbing installation, maintenance and repair.  Must have knowledge of steam, water and natural gas distribution, system maintenance and repair.  Must be able to troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of plumbing problems. This position requires the ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.  Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the plumbing trade. 

 

Must be able to complete associated paperwork and work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Must be highly motivated with good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Requires computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.

 

A Post-offer background check and the ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.

Position is Monday - Friday from 6:30 am to 3:00pm, with occasional on-call duties.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in a variety of settings including office and laboratory environments, as well as in outdoor areas.  Will frequently stand, walk, sit, kneel, crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, etc.), reach/work overhead, frequently lift/carry/push/pull heavy objects that weigh up to 80 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation and perform desk-based computer tasks.  Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator.  Will work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.The above is intended to describe the general requirements for the position and should not be interpreted as an exhaustive statement of physical requirements.  The Institute will provide reasonable accommodation to any employee with a disability who requires an accommodation to perform the essential functions of the position.
