Full description from employer

The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung (IKZ) is a leading research institution in the field of science & technology as well as service & transfer of crystalline materials. Our goal is to enable solutions for pressing societal challenges (e.g. communication, artificial intelligence, climate protection, health, etc.) through modern electronic & photonic technologies. The work covers the entire spectrum from basic and applied research to pre-industrial development and is carried out in cooperation with national and international partners from universities, academies and industry. The institute is part of the Forschungsverbund Berlin (https://www.fv-berlin.de/) and a member of the Leibniz Association (https://www.leibniz-gemeinschaft.de). You can find more details on the institute webpage: https://www.ikz-berlin.de.

The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung is currently looking for a

Postdoc (m/f/d)

for the topic:

“Digital Workflow, Ontologies, and Machine Learning for Epitaxial Processes”

Epitaxial layers are the key functional parts in electronic and opto-electronic devices. In a BMFTR funded project digital twins will be developed for MOCVD processes and will be used for optimizing the process along the process chain up to the device including by means of machine learning. The industrial partner is AIXTRON, one of the leading companies for MOCVD reactors. The digital twin will be developed for the industry-established process of GaN layers and devices as well for Ga2O3, an emerging material of high interest for high-power applications.

Tasks

  • Defining the meta data space for the epitaxy of Ga2O3 layers in an AIXTRON reactor
  • Generalizing the meta data for epitaxial processes of semiconductors with large band gap
  • Developing an ontology for the workflow
  • Developing machine learning exploiting the meta data of the processes

Meta data will be defined in the NOMAD Oasis framework.

Requirements

  • Completed academic study in physics, chemistry, mathematics or related fields, PhD degree
  • Knowledge in data science
  • Experience with machine learning
  • Knowledge in materials science
  • Experience with gitlab would be beneficial
  • Experience with NOMAD Oasis would be beneficial

You will work together with data scientists from the Humboldt University and the MPI-SUSMAT on one side and with the experts of the Ga2O3 -epilayer growth at IKZ on the other hand. The work also includes the data from the device processing at the Ferdinand-Braun-Institute (FBH).
