Job Description:

The Center for Insurance Policy and Research (CIPR) at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is seeking applicants for one postdoctoral research position. This is a full-time/temporary remote position based out of our Kansas City, MO, USA, office with potential consideration for New York City or Washington, DC offices. The position is one year with the possibility of extending for an additional year based on first year evaluation.

The CIPR seeks applicants with expertise and interest in the quantitative analysis of issues related to risk management, insurance, and insurance regulation. Preference will be given to candidates with a research focus in one of two key ongoing research areas: 1) property and casualty insurance, including homeowners’ markets, catastrophe and climate risk, broad issues of the availability and affordability of insurance policies, policyholder protection gaps, and purchase decisions. 2) life insurance, particularly from an investment finance perspective.

The CIPR offers a unique opportunity to conduct applied research with meaningful public policy implications while remaining connected to the scholarly community. Postdoctoral fellows work closely with CIPR researchers and other NAIC staff on ongoing projects, while also having dedicated time to pursue their own related research interests.

A clear and concise presentation of research results in both written and oral form is expected. Candidates should have strong skills in data analysis and econometric/statistical modeling.

Researchers are encouraged to publish their work in peer-reviewed journals, present at academic conferences, develop collaborations with external scholars, and contribute to interdisciplinary conversations on risk, insurance, and public policy. The CIPR maintains strong relationships with universities, research centers, regulators, and industry stakeholders, creating opportunities for both scholarly and applied impact.
