About this role

We are Sisco Jobs, a recruitment consultancy based in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. We are hiring on behalf of our client for the position of Primary Electrical / Substation Design Engineer in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Our client is a reputed organization supporting the Energy, Utilities & Infrastructure sector and is seeking skilled, motivated professionals. If you meet the requirements below, apply early as positions are limited. The role will develop and independently check primary electrical designs for high-voltage substations and grid connections supporting a UK grid infrastructure programme, covering the full lifecycle from design basis and equipment selection through calculations, specifications, layouts and construction-ready deliverables. Key Responsibilities Prepare design basis documents, SLDs, key-line diagrams, substation layouts, sections, equipment arrangements and technical specifications. Perform electrical-clearance, insulation-coordination, equipment-rating and busbar/conductor-selection calculations and assessments. Develop primary design inputs for substation earthing and lightning-protection systems. Prepare technical requirements and data schedules for transformers/reactors, switchgear, CTs/VTs, surge arresters, disconnectors, earth switches and associated HV plant. Coordinate primary-design interfaces with protection/control, SCADA, cables, civil/structural, earthing, auxiliary supplies and BIM/CAD teams. Review supplier drawings and technical data, resolve technical queries and incorporate approved vendor information into designs. Produce and independently check calculations, reports, schedules, material take-offs and construction details while applying controlled checking, revision and change-management procedures. Support design and safety reviews, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning activities as required. Required Skills HV Substation Primary Design — Hands-on authorship and checking of primary engineering deliverables for high-voltage substations. AIS/GIS Engineering — Practical capability with AIS and/or GIS substations at 400/220/132/33 kV. HV Plant Engineering — Selection, rating and specification of transformers/reactors, switchgear, instrument transformers and associated plant. Clearances & Insulation Coordination — Ability to demonstrate safe electrical clearances and undertake insulation-coordination activities. Earthing & Lightning Protection — Strong understanding of primary-design requirements and interfaces for earthing and lightning protection. Preferred Skills Experience with 220 kV and 400 kV substation design. Familiarity with MicroStation and review of 3D/BIM models. Working knowledge of IEC standards and relevant BS/EN/ENA engineering guidance for UK grid projects. Work Experience Requirements Minimum 10+ years of relevant professional experience, with substantial hands-on responsibility for primary/substation engineering deliverables. Experience must include high-voltage power, transmission, substations, utilities or directly comparable critical infrastructure. Candidates must demonstrate 132 kV or above design experience, with 220/400 kV capability preferred, and clearly distinguish personally authored or independently checked design work from site, review or commissioning exposure.
