Contract: Initial 6-month contract with view to permanent

Overview

We're seeking an experienced Principal Architect to provide architectural leadership across a major business domain.

Reporting to the Head of Architecture, you'll own technology strategy, technology roadmaps, architecture governance, and delivery oversight across a significant transformation portfolio. This role requires a strategic leader who can shape long-term direction while remaining closely aligned to programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture Strategy

• Own and evolve domain architecture strategy.
• Define target-state architecture and technology roadmaps.
• Align technology decisions with business objectives and enterprise standards.
• Support strategic planning and investment decisions.

Transformation & Delivery

• Lead architecture across major transformation and migration programmes.
• Ensure delivery aligns with strategic architecture objectives.
• Work with Product, Engineering, Delivery and Business leaders to drive outcomes.
• Support solution teams in delivering scalable, resilient solutions.

Governance & Control

• Establish and maintain architecture governance.
• Lead architecture reviews and decision-making processes.
• Manage architectural risk, standards, controls and technical debt.
• Ensure compliance with security, governance and regulatory requirements.

People Leadership

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of Solution Architects.
• Establish consistent architectural standards and ways of working.
• Support capability development, resource planning and team growth.

Required Experience

• Principal Architect, Domain Architect, Head of Architecture, Chief Architect, Architecture Director, or similar leadership role.
• Ownership of architecture strategy and technology roadmaps within a large, complex organisation.
• Experience leading major transformation, migration or modernisation programmes.
• Proven management and development of Solution Architects.
• Strong architecture governance and decision-making framework Experience.
• Ability to translate business strategy into practical technology delivery.
• Strong stakeholder management across business and technology leadership.
• Experience working within regulated environments.
