Principal Engineer - AVI load balancer, F5 Big-IP

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer.

In this role, you will:

• Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
• Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
• Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
• Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
• Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
• Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

• Define and drive enterprise architecture and engineering standards for networking and application delivery.
• Design, implement, and optimize solutions using F5 BIG-IP (LTM/GTM/DNS/WAF) and AVI Load Balancers.
• Lead infrastructure modernization and cloud adoption initiatives across hybrid environments.
• Provide technical leadership for high-availability, scalability, security, and resiliency improvements.
• Partner with application, platform, cloud, and security teams to deliver reliable infrastructure solutions.
• Drive automation through Infrastructure as Code and DevOps practices.
• Mentor engineers and influence technology strategy across the organization.
• Expert knowledge of F5 BIG-IP and AVI Load Balancer platforms.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, SSL/TLS, and application networking.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and container platforms (OpenShift/Kubernetes).
• Hands-on experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Python, or CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven ability to lead large-scale infrastructure initiatives and influence enterprise architecture decisions.
• Strong debugging & production support skills to drive & resolve highly visible production incidents

Job Expectations:

• Financial services or other highly regulated industry experience.
• F5, VMware, Cisco, or Cloud certifications.
• Experience with WAF, Global Load Balancing, Zero Trust, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
