What you'll do

  • Take responsibility for understanding client requirements through clear briefings and effective stakeholder management, ensuring strong and trusted working relationships.
  • Prepare mechanical specifications and equipment schedules with attention to detail and alignment to project needs.
  • Carry out accurate heating, cooling, and ventilation calculations to support safe, efficient, and compliant designs.
  • Produce detailed technical calculations using industry‑standard digital tools, while also supporting and guiding others in producing high‑quality outputs.
  • Collaborate closely with the AtkinsRéalis Global Technology Centre (GTC) to enhance design quality and add value to building services projects.
  • Confidently represent AtkinsRéalis in meetings with clients, contractors, and project partners, contributing positively and professionally.
  • Undertake site surveys and regularly review site progress to ensure designs are delivered as intended.
  • Manage project delivery responsibilities, supporting projects through key stages to successful completion.
  • Actively contribute to the growth of the team by assisting in the development and mentoring of colleagues.
  • Take advantage of opportunities to step into a lead role within the Mechanical Design Delivery team.
  • Benefit from clear opportunities for career progression and professional development within the organisation.

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards final stages of chartership.
  • Good level of computer literacy in Microsoft packages.
  • Experience and awareness of mechanical design tool software packages such as IES, HEVACOMP, NBS and Revit.
  • CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant (LCC).
  • Experience working in a design consultancy and/or experience of working within a contractor design environment is essential.
  • Have a detailed knowledge of appropriate technical standards.
  • Able to take charge of project deliverables, make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.
  • Awareness and management of available project budget.
