Full description from employer

Secure Every Identity, from AI to Human

Identity is the key to unlocking the potential of AI. Okta secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace this new era. This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence.

This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.

The team

The UI Platform team is the force multiplier for Okta’s entire product portfolio. By building world-class components, accessible frameworks, and developer-friendly tools, your work will directly impact millions of administrative and end-user interactions every day. You will work alongside dedicated product and engineering partners in an environment that values speed, clarity, and career-defining impact.

The role

The Principal Product Designer – UI Platform is a high-impact individual contributor role, serving as a foundational design lead for Okta's global user experience infrastructure. Joining the Product Platform group, you will act as a resident expert and strategic thought partner, shaping the horizontal design patterns, design architecture, localization/globalization frameworks, and accessibility standards (WCAG) that power every Okta Workforce Identity product.

You will partner directly with cross functional UI Platform leads to drive platform-level initiatives, harmonizing user experience (UX) and developer experience (DevEx) across our engineering and product organizations. You will also collaborate closely with the Design Systems team, acting as a bridge between the system and feature teams applying it to our product.

What you’ll be doing

When everyone on the team can generate UI, the designer's role shifts. You become the person responsible for strong systems thinking, taste, quality, experience, and being the voice of the customer. You hold the quality bar when speed is pushing everything toward "fine."

  • UI & System Leadership: In partnership with the Design Systems team, serve as a UI platform and design system expert, identifying / creating, documenting, and evangelizing scalable, accessible (WCAG), and localized patterns to resolve dependencies across products.
  • Strategic Partnership: Partner with cross functional UI Platform leads to align vision with design strategy, co-owning the roadmap to balance features, tech debt, quality, and adoption.
  • Raise the craft: Enable Okta Research and Development teams through clear alignment and documentation. Improve org-wide processes and mentor designers to promote craft excellence, candid feedback, and growth.
  • Data Informed Decision Making: Leverage data and AI insights to inform clear, platform-level design decisions and streamline governance.

Who we are looking for

  • You are proficient in AI workflows and how to apply them to the product design process, along with opinions about where AI tools help and where they fall short
  • You are passionate about helping customers solve real problems and upholding design UX principles to help teams deliver cohesive and quality user experiences
  • You relish effective teamwork – and you are a key contributor to building a healthy team
  • You bring a systems-thinking lens to the conversation and can effectively identify elegant, extensible solutions
  • You have excellent craft and enjoy diving into the details to ensure high quality experiences for our customers, while providing design feedback and mentorship to fellow designers
  • You have a learning mindset, able to manage ambiguity with openness and curiosity, helping your team drive toward clarity
  • You are someone who sees design as a partner in shaping strategic and operational product and UX outcomes; comfortable owning all stages of design for multiple teams within a given product area
  • You have strong communication skills and can distill complex concepts into simple, easy to understand narratives, while advocating for consistent, high quality design based on sound rationale
  • Your portfolio will show that you've worked on and led complex and challenging projects across all aspects of the design process (conceptual design, interaction design, information architecture, and visual design) across large, horizontal scopes and groups, with a preference for large-scale enterprise and SAAS products
  • You share our values, and work in accordance with those values

Qualifications

  • Degree in a related field or relevant work experience as a Product Designer
  • Proficient in Figma, Miro, Balsamiq and / or similar design tools
  • Possesses knowledge of HTML / CSS / JavaScript
  • 10+ years of experience as Product Designer

Note for when applying

In your application, please include a link to your portfolio with password (if protected). We prioritize a review of your design craft and any examples of your work in code.
