About this role

As a Process Automation Specialist (m/w/x) at Thorlabs, you will be responsible for identifying, designing, implementing, and optimizing automation solutions that improve operational efficiency, reduce manual effort, and support business growth. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze business processes, develop scalable automation workflows, and continuously enhance existing solutions while ensuring compliance and security standards.

This position is limited to a fixed term of two years.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze business processes and identify opportunities for automation and workflow optimization.
  • Gather requirements from stakeholders and translate business needs into automation solutions.
  • Develop, test, implement, and maintain automation workflows, scripts, and bots using appropriate technologies.
  • Integrate automation solutions with existing business applications, systems, and IT infrastructure.
  • Monitor automation performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure reliable operation of deployed solutions.
  • Continuously improve automation processes by evaluating new technologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and process specifications; provide end-user training and support.
  • Ensure automation solutions comply with internal policies, security requirements, and applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in business process automation, workflow optimization, and digital transformation projects.
  • Hands-on experience with automation platforms such as Microsoft Power Platform, Power Automate, UiPath, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of process analysis, process mapping, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Basic programming and scripting skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, VBA, SQL)
  • Understanding of system integrations, APIs, databases, web services, and enterprise applications
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills with a proactive and detail-oriented approach.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Very good English language skills (written and spoken); German language skills are an advantage.
