About this role

PROJECT COORDINATOR – FUNDRAISING EVENTS
About Ummeed
Ummeed, a premier non-profit organization for children with disabilities in India, supports children with developmental disabilities to reach their maximum potential and be included in society.

India has over 50 million children with disabilities under the age of 15. With access to appropriate health, intervention, education, recreation, and livelihood services they can be supported to become participative members of society. Today most of them have limited or no access to relevant knowledge and services as the number of organizations and professionals in the space are inadequate to meet the need. To date, Ummeed has supported 16,000 children through direct clinical services and reached an estimated 0.73 million children through 14,000+ professionals (doctors, therapists, community workers, teachers) and network partners that are enabled and trained by Ummeed.

Ummeed was founded in 2001 by Dr. Vibha Krishnamurthy, a developmental pediatrician. Today, with a workforce of over 130 committed professionals, Ummeed’s transdisciplinary approach works towards:
    • Supporting children in overcoming their disabilities through direct clinical services and helping families in their journey towards acceptance and empowerment
    • Building a network of trained professionals and community workers who can prevent, diagnose, and manage developmental disabilities effectively
    • Conducting research and creating evidence-based knowledge of developmental disabilities in the Indian context
    • Changing societal attitudes so that children with disabilities can be meaningful and productive members in it

About the Position
The fundraising team at Ummeed is responsible for promoting Ummeed’s mission to support children with developmental disabilities and for raising funds to support Ummeed’s work. These funds are raised through institutional CSR, philanthropic foundations, and through the contributions of generous individuals. The team is looking for an experienced Event Coordinator / Project Manager to lead activities for various fundraising events through the year, such as the 55Km Walk for Ummeed.
About the Walk: 17 years ago, two friends who enjoyed long walks happened to cover 55 km in a single day on the South Goa beaches. Impressed by what they had accomplished, they decided to repeat the walk and invite friends to support Ummeed while doing it. The response was encouraging, and this gave birth to the “55Km Walk for UMMEED”, a fundraising and awareness event held each year since 2011, along the South Goa coastline.
The Walk and other events at Ummeed embody the spirit of inclusion and hope that Ummeed stands for. These events are pivotal in ensuring that Ummeed continues to receive the support of our friends and allies each year, year on year.
