Public Safety, Trainer 3

(Fire & Emergency Services - Driver Operator)

Description of Duties & Responsibilities: Under limited supervision, serves as an instructor for various Fire Apparatus Operator Courses. Participates in needs assessment, research, design and evaluation of statewide public safety training programs. Demonstrates teamwork and a high degree of customer service. Instruct topics including Fire & Rescue and assigned specialized training. Long periods of standing, riding, driving, bending, and squatting required. Year-round training in all weather conditions. Wearing of personal protective equipment: Full Turnout Gear.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum 3 years’ progressive experience with a fire service agency with at least 1 year experience as an instructor focused on the development and delivery of fire service training.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference may be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum training & experience requirements, possess one or more of the following:

• Possession of Georgia Firefighter certification.

• Four years of continuous fire service work experience preceding application.

• Experience and specialization in fire apparatus operations.

• Possession of NPQ Apparatus Operator – Pumper Certification

• Possession of NPQ Apparatus Operator – Aerial Certification

• Possession of NPQ Instructor II level certification and/or Georgia POST General Instructor certification.

Other Remarks: Selected candidates subject to criminal records background and drug screening clearance.

• Copy of GFSTC transcript reflecting certifications, employment and training records recorded by the Georgia Firefighter Standards & Training Council

• Resume (summary of duties performed in current/past employment.)

• Copy of DD214 (as applicable)

Initial screening: Submitted application & documents will be reviewed to determine those applicants selected for interview appointment.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED, Georgia P.O.S.T General Instructor certification, and eighteen (18) months of full-time instructor work-related experience in peace officer, correctional, fire service, EMS, or rescue topics applicable to the area of assignment, or two (2) years required work experience at the lower-level Public Safety, Trainer 2 (PSP031).--Note: Must be eligible to obtain required Georgia P.O.S.T. specialty instructor certifications, Basic Law Enforcement certification, or P.O.S.T. certification as a peace officer.
