Purchase Executive (Staples Commodity)

Bengaluru, IndiaFull-timeEntry · 1-4 years

About this role

About SuperK
SuperK is a membership-led value retail chain built for Bharat, operating across Tier 3 to Tier 5 towns in Andhra Pradesh. We're on a mission to bring modern retail experience to small-town India, without compromising on value, quality, or trust. Backed by Blume Ventures and XEED Ventures, we’re reimagining general trade with tech-enabled retail and a deep understanding of Bharat's consumer behavior.
About the Role
As a Purchase Executive, you will manage end-to-end procurement of food, staples, and FMCG products for SuperK's stores, warehouses, and private-label manufacturing unit. This includes vendor sourcing, price negotiation, purchase order management, and stock coordination — with a strong focus on quality, freshness, and cost efficiency, given the perishable and price-sensitive nature of the category. You'll work closely with category managers, warehouse teams, and the private-label unit to ensure uninterrupted supply at the best possible cost.
Key Responsibilities
  • Source, evaluate, and negotiate with vendors and suppliers of staples (rice, atta, pulses, edible oils, sugar, etc.), packaged FMCG (personal care, home care, packaged foods, beverages), and raw materials for the private-label manufacturing unit.
  • Issue purchase orders and track timely delivery, keeping shelf-life, batch/expiry dates, and MRP compliance in mind.
  • Maintain and update supplier database, price lists, and purchase records across staples and FMCG categories.
  • Monitor stock levels across stores and warehouses; coordinate replenishment to avoid stock-outs on fast-moving SKUs and overstocking of perishables.
  • Track and follow up on pending orders, especially around high-demand periods (festive season, promotions) and price-volatile commodities.
  • Verify vendor invoices — including rate contracts, schemes, and credit notes — and coordinate with accounts for timely payments.
  • Identify and onboard reliable regional and national suppliers/mandi sources for staples to strengthen backward integration for the private-label unit.
  • Ensure compliance with FSSAI norms, company procurement policies, and quality standards for all food and FMCG purchases.
  • Support cost control by tracking commodity price trends and obtaining competitive quotations across vendors.
  • Generate purchase and category-wise cost reports (e.g., staples vs FMCG spend, vendor-wise pricing trends) for management review.
What We Are Looking For
  • 1–4 years of experience in procurement, ideally with exposure to food, staples, or FMCG categories.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Kannada or Telugu is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of commodity pricing trends (grains, pulses, edible oils, etc.) and FMCG trade schemes/margins.
  • Familiarity with FSSAI and food safety compliance requirements is a plus.
  • Good understanding of procurement processes and supply chain/inventory management in a retail or manufacturing setup.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); comfort with ERP/inventory management systems preferred.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under tight timelines given the fast-moving, perishable nature of the category.
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
