Company Description

Use your trade expertise to shape the next generation of concreters.  Build careers, not just concrete

You’ve spent years building your skills on site. Now you could use that experience to help build the careers of the next generation.

At City-Wide Building and Training Services (CWBTS), we’re looking for an experienced and qualified concreter who is ready to use their trade knowledge in a different way – training, assessing and mentoring apprentices completing their Certificate III in Concreting.

This could be a great next move if you still enjoy the construction industry but are looking at a change in career direction, a three-day working week and the opportunity to pass on what you know.

You won’t be stuck behind a desk or disconnected from the trade. You’ll be out visiting apprentices and employers across Sydney, Wollongong and surrounding areas, seeing work happen on site and helping apprentices develop the skills, confidence and knowledge to become capable tradespeople.

Why this role could be your next move

  • Work-life balance – permanent part-time, working 31.5 hours across three days.
  • A new way to use your trade – turn years of practical experience into knowledge for the next generation.
  • Less wear and tear – stay connected to construction without spending every day doing physically demanding site work.
  • Work with purpose – help apprentices become confident, capable and job-ready concreters.
  • Stay connected to industry – work directly with apprentices, employers and supervisors on site.
  • Variety and autonomy – spend your days travelling between worksites and training locations rather than sitting behind a desk.
  • Support on the road – receive a $17,000 FTE vehicle allowance, pro rata, including fuel and eTag costs.

Job Description

Permanent Part-Time | 31.5 hours across three days | Sydney and Central Coast regions
$80,000–$85,000 Full-Time Equivalent + superannuation | $17,000 FTE vehicle allowance, pro rata – including fuel & eTag costs

What your week could look like

One day, you might visit an apprentice on site and observe them preparing, placing, finishing or curing concrete as part of their assessment.

The next, you could be coaching an apprentice who needs some additional support, talking with a supervisor about their progress or completing assessment records and planning your upcoming site visits.

You’ll combine your practical knowledge with training and assessment, while building strong relationships with apprentices and the employers supporting them.

No two weeks will look exactly the same, but you’ll still be connected to the industry you know – just using your experience in a different way.

What you’ll do

As a Concreting Trainer & Assessor, you’ll deliver practical, industry-relevant training and assessment for apprentices completing the CPC30320 Certificate III in Concreting.

You will:

  • Visit apprentices at worksites and approved training locations.
  • Deliver engaging training grounded in current concreting practices.
  • Observe apprentices performing practical tasks and assess their competency.
  • Coach apprentices, provide constructive feedback and help them stay on track.
  • Maintain regular contact with apprentices and monitor their progress.
  • Build trusted relationships with employers and workplace supervisors.
  • Complete assessments and maintain accurate student and progress records.
  • Use digital systems to manage training, assessment and student information.
  • Contribute to quality, compliance and continuous improvement activities.

You’ll primarily travel across Sydney and the Central Coast regions. Occasional further travel and overnight stays may be required, with approved associated costs covered by CWBTS.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A Certificate III trade qualification in Concreting or equivalent.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment – TAE40116, TAE40122 or an accepted equivalent.
  • Strong current or recent concreting experience and a sound understanding of quality workmanship and safe work practices.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and build rapport with apprentices, employers and colleagues.
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently across multiple locations.
  • Confidence using digital tools, or the willingness and ability to learn the systems used for training, assessment and student records.
  • Australian working rights and willingness to travel to worksites and training venues.
  • A Working with Children Check (Employee), or willingness to obtain one.
  • Willingness to complete required Police and driver's licence checks.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and compliance training.

Highly regarded

  • Experience supervising, coaching or mentoring apprentices or junior tradespeople.
  • Experience delivering or assessing apprenticeship-based training.
  • Familiarity with learning management or student record systems such as ReadySkills, LMS or VETtrak.
