What you'll do

  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of incoming parts, materials, and components against engineering drawings, work instructions, and typical aerospace workmanship standards (e.g. IPC, ECSS, NASA etc.).
  • Perform in-process inspections at key manufacturing stages, including first article and Key Inspection Point Inspections, to verify conformance with design configurations, work instructions, and workmanship standards.
  • Support resolution of supplier engineering queries (EQs) by liaising with Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain within the organisation.
  • Conduct final inspections of outgoing hardware to confirm compliance with customer and internal requirements prior to shipment.
  • Accurately document inspection results and maintain traceable quality records across incoming, in-process, and outgoing inspection activities.
  • Identify and escalate non-conformances to Quality Engineers or appropriate Technical Authorities.
  • Support calibration and maintenance of inspection tools and equipment (e.g. callipers, torque drivers, microscopes etc.) to ensure they remain in proper working condition.
  • Assist in tracking calibration schedules in line with company procedures and quality management standards.

  • Clear, professional communication skills for liaising with suppliers, engineering, and manufacturing teams on technical queries and non-conformances.
  • Familiarity with ISO quality systems or other aerospace industry quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy in documentation, and ability to follow established procedures.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills for cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Nice to have

  • Certification in IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001.
  • Working experience with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems or other aerospace industry quality standards.
  • Experience executing calibration schedules for inspection and test equipment.
  • Experience supporting supplier engineering query (EQ), NCR, or CAR processes.
  • Experience providing basic maintenance support for production equipment in a manufacturing environment.

As a Quality Control Technician, you will help ensure the quality and reliability of spacecraft components throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. This includes incoming inspection of supplier materials, in-process manufacturing support, supplier Engineering Query (EQ) resolution, and final outgoing inspection prior to shipment. 

You will also support the maintenance and calibration of inspection and production equipment, helping ensure they remain fit for purpose and capable of delivering accurate results.  

To be successful, you will have strong attention to detail, integrity and accuracy, with a disciplined approach to following procedures and requirements. You will be confident conducting inspections, maintaining accurate records, and identifying and escalating non-conformances when requirements are not met. 

 

What you’ll do as a Quality Control Technician:

Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.
