Full description from employer

We are recruiting a part-time Spanish–English Bilingual research assistant to support research on bilingual children’s language development and the identification of developmental language disorder. Specific responsibilities include data management and processing, administering language and literacy assessments in Spanish and English in school contexts, transcribing and coding language samples, assisting with data quality checks, maintaining study records and materials, and supporting general laboratory administration. Applicants must be proficient in both Spanish and English and comfortable working directly with children and families. Applicants with previous experience in research, child language development, speech-language pathology, education, psychology, or a related field will be given preference. The successful applicant will gain hands-on experience with bilingual language assessment and clinical research and may have opportunities to contribute to conference presentations and scientific manuscripts.

Hours: Part Time

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to apply knowledge gained through coursework in psychology, speech and hearing, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and/or computer science.

  • Ability to operate and calibrate lab equipment and other electronic devices.

  • Ability to operate a personal computer and audio equipment.

  • Ability to apply math aptitude in order to perform data analyses and generate results.

  • Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to work directly with laboratory staff personnel and principal investigators.

  • Job requires interpersonal skills, close attention to details, math aptitude, independent analytical thinking, organizational skills and flexibility in duties performed.

  • Ability to participate in continuing education programs regarding laboratory safe practices.
