Job Description Summary

Organization Summary Statement:
The Research Coordinator for the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park works with Principal Investigators (PIs) through the development, submission, award, execution and closeout of sponsored projects. The Coordinator advises faculty on all elements and procedures required for proposal preparation, development and submission and on appropriate expenditures, award specific terms and regulations.

The Coordinator also obtains and follows solicitation instructions for the preparation of the proposals and prepares proposal budgets, gathers information to support the proposed costs and completes all required sponsor cost proposal forms.

Physical Demands: Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must be able to traverse to other buildings and departments on campus. Repetitive motion in arms/hands/fingers. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers plus visual acuity for computer use and extensive reading. May sit in front of computer monitor for extended periods of time.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One (1) year of professional research or proposal development experience.

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: 

Knowledge of research administration procedures and proposal development.
Knowledge of federal grant compliance and OMB Circulars A-21, A-110, and A-133.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
